The Division of International Student and Scholar Services at the Office of International Affairs, National Cheng Kung University, hosted the 2025 Spring Festival Gala for International Students on January 3rd. Nearly 400 faculty members and students gathered to celebrate a warm and joyous Lunar New Year. Distinguished guests included Chief Yu-Yun Liu from the Overseas Students Affairs Division of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, Director Szu-Hao Chen from the Straits Exchange Foundation, Director Wu-Hsiang Wan from the Talent Taiwan International Talent Recruitment Center, Captain Chien-Hsiung Lee from the National Immigration Agency, and Officer Li-Yi Yeh from the Foreign Affairs Section of the Tainan City Police Department, among others. Their presence added extra brilliance to the annual event.
The event kicked off with a lively lion dance performance, symbolizing good fortune and joy for the New Year. Wei-Shiun Chang, Associate Vice President for International Affairs and Head of the Division of International Student and Scholar Services, delivered a speech expressing gratitude for the support from various parties and encouraging international students to actively integrate into campus life, showcasing the charm of multiculturalism. Following the speech, Yu-yun Liu, Chief of the Overseas Students Affairs Division at the Overseas Community Affairs Council, presented the 2024 Outstanding Overseas Student Scholarship, recognizing the exceptional academic and extracurricular achievements of international students and inspiring more students to strive for excellence.
The evening was filled with spectacular performances, including traditional lion dancing, an Indonesian dance troupe, a Malaysian band, and a choir by students from Hong Kong and Taiwan. These thoughtfully prepared performances created a visual and auditory feast of multicultural fusion. Not only did they showcase the unique cultural charms of various countries, but they also highlighted the deep bonds between Taiwan and its international student community.
The lucky draw was a highlight of the annual gala, with generous prizes sponsored by various organizations sparking enthusiastic cheers and continuous laughter from the audience. In addition to a sumptuous banquet and the exciting lucky draw, the event centered around the theme of Lunar New Year reunion, spreading warmth and fostering emotional connections. It beautifully embodied the spirit of cultural inclusivity and integration.
The organizers hoped that through the Spring Festival Gala, international students could experience the warm atmosphere of Taiwan's traditional Lunar New Year while strengthening connections between faculty, students, and the broader community. The event highlighted the beauty of cultural diversity and the power of exchange, achieving great success thanks to the support of various organizations and the enthusiastic participation of students.
