【94th Anniversary】 NCKU Industry – Academia Innovation Day Highlights AI Integration and Smart Transformation
The annual academic and industry event of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), the “NCKU Industry-Academia Innovation Day,” was grandly held on the 6th at Macronix Hall (旺宏館) of the Shengli Campus, as part of the university’s anniversary week activities. The event was co-hosted by the Industry-Academia Innovation Center and the Office of Research and Development, in collaboration with on-campus and external research teams, the Southern Taiwan Scientific Research Industrialization Platform (大南方科研產業化平台), NCKU’s Startup Ecosystem, and the Phoenix Startup Platform. With over a hundred technological research and innovation achievements on display, the event comprehensively showcased NCKU’s efforts in “AI adoption and intelligent transformation” and the outcomes of its industrial linkages.
The event attracted nearly 900 participants, including corporate representatives, distinguished guests from government, industry, academia, and research, as well as NCKU faculty and students. Notable attendees included Chi-Hung Chen (陳其宏), Chairman of Qisda Corporation (佳世達科技), and Hsiu-Chen Lin (林秀貞), Deputy Director of the Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau (南科管理局). In his speech, NCKU Vice President Yong-Chun Li (李永春) remarked that this year’s Industry-Academia Innovation Day was even more spectacular than last year’s. The event not only highlighted the important achievements of NCKU’s industry-academia collaborations but also promoted greater cooperation between the university’s innovative research capacity and the industrial sector. Moreover, AI, being the most significant trend today, will further strengthen NCKU’s direction and capability in AI development.
AI Forum Focuses on Cross-Domain Applications, Leading New Trends in Intelligent Transformation
The event’s theme, “Knowledge Convergence in Academia × Co-Creation in Industry: Opening a New Chapter in AI,” featured distinguished speakers from government, industry, academia, and research, sharing insights on trends and practical experiences. Speakers included Shih-Chun Wu (吳士駿), Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at NCKU; Meng-Zong Su (蘇孟宗), Associate Manager at Industrial Technology Research Institute (工研院); Wei-Cheng Chou (周威成), Founder of Innovedus Inc. (智匯創育); Chen-Chieh Lien (連震杰), Associate Dean of NCKU College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; and Han-Chang Wu (吳漢章), General Manager of Taiwan AI Cloud (華碩雲端暨台智雲). They discussed AI applications in semiconductors, robotics, healthcare, and manufacturing, analyzing how AI drives industrial intelligence and sustainable transformation.
Technological Achievements Showcase Cross-Domain Research Strength
The exhibition featured over a hundred research outcomes, spanning fields such as electrical engineering and communications, mechanical manufacturing, materials science, biotechnology and healthcare, energy and environment, management services, and creative design. The content covered both academic research and industrial applications. For the first time, the Office of Research and Development selected 27 cutting-edge research achievements to be showcased, with 17 professors giving presentations to share their research findings, highlighting the breadth and depth of NCKU’s scientific capabilities. Additionally, through the Southern Taiwan Scientific Research Platform, research teams from National Tainan Junior College of Nursing (台南護校), CTBC University of Technology (中信科大), and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (高雄科大) participated jointly, demonstrating the integration of research across universities in southern Taiwan.
Comprehensive Startup Ecosystem Supports Entrepreneurial Teams
NCKU has long cultivated entrepreneurial education and incubation mechanisms, forming a complete startup ecosystem from “idea initiation, prototype development, acceleration and incubation, to large-scale implementation.” This year, the “NCKU Innovation Dream Realization Program (成大創新圓夢計畫)” featured 30 startup teams showcasing their results and participating in an Elevator Pitch competition, presenting their creativity and market potential in 3-minute pitches, attracting attention from on-site investors and companies.
Golden Phoenix Angel Funding Pitches Create Investment Matching Opportunities
The Phoenix Startup Platform, jointly promoted by NCKU and its alumni, once again partnered with the NCKU Angel Investment Club (成大天使投資俱樂部) to host the Golden Phoenix Angel Funding Pitch. Domestic and international investors and corporate partners were invited to participate. Six selected “Golden Phoenix Startup Teams” presented their funding pitches, demonstrating innovative products and business models, aiming to facilitate investment matching and promote the market realization of NCKU’s startup teams.
Through its four highlights—AI Forum, Achievement Exhibition, Startup Competition, and Funding Platform—NCKU Industry-Academia Innovation Day fully presented the university’s development trajectory in “innovative research, patent translation, technology commercialization, and responsible governance,” demonstrating the university’s role as a key force in leading industrial intelligence transformation and sustainable development.
