Eight Cross-Disciplinary Elites Join NCKU’s Interdisciplinary Program, Demonstrating Sustainable Innovation
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) recently announced the admission results for its Cross College Elite Program (CCEP), with eight outstanding students selected as the inaugural cohort for the 2026 academic year. These newly admitted students come from diverse backgrounds and have demonstrated exceptional achievements. Beyond excelling in their respective fields, they also exhibit strong leadership, extensive hands-on experience, and a deep commitment to social service.
Among the admitted students are international promoters of Sinology, multilingual specialists, a world gold medalist at the Robofest robotics competition, a gold medalist at the Asian Artistic Roller Skating Championships, a Division I badminton athlete, as well as an award-winning team leader from the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and a full-stack software developer.
Through their concrete actions and forward-looking perspectives, these top-tier students embody the essence of what it means to be “interdisciplinary innovators.” Not only do they excel in individual areas of expertise, but they also actively integrate key future-oriented themes—such as artificial intelligence (AI), ESG-driven sustainability practices, innovative social service and design, and the global promotion of Sinology—into their personal strengths. This reflects their capacity to transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries and demonstrates the integrative competencies the program aims to cultivate.
This philosophy lies at the heart of the program’s mission: to nurture a new generation of talent that combines “hard professional skills” with “soft humanistic qualities,” and that defines the future through passion and action. The students’ shared decision to enroll in NCKU’s interdisciplinary program reflects their recognition of its high degree of flexibility and cross-disciplinary integration. They aspire to freely explore and synthesize knowledge across fields during their university years, positioning themselves to make meaningful contributions to global development in the future.
According to Sheng-Chih Shen (沈聖智), Vice President for Academic Affairs at NCKU, “Our admissions process does not focus solely on top scores in a single subject. Instead, we value the depth of students’ long-term commitment, the real-world impact of their actions, and their creative potential to connect knowledge across different fields. These admitted students are the best embodiment of our program’s philosophy.”
He further noted that these students not only possess impressive competition records and extensive hands-on experience, but also demonstrate strong motivation for interdisciplinary learning and a proactive commitment to social responsibility. Their profiles align closely with the core values of the ‘Special Selection Admissions Pathway,’ which emphasizes diverse talents, self-directed learning journeys, and the ability to address real-world challenges. Looking ahead, NCKU hopes that these young talents will generate even greater waves of innovation on campus and shine brightly on the international stage.
