NCKU SIC joins the Net-Zero initiative by participating in the “Tainan Campus Net-Zero Green Life +1 Outreach Campaign.”
On December 28, the NCKU Sustainable Innovation Club participated in the “Tainan Campus Net-Zero Green Life +1 Outreach Campaign” Results Presentation hosted by the Tainan City Environmental Protection Bureau at Chang Jung Christian University. Together with three other schools — Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology, Chang Jung Christian University, and Chia Nan University of Pharmacy & Science — the club showcased six months of action results. Liang-Ming Huang (黃良銘), Director of NCKU’s Industry-Academia Innovation Center, and representatives from multiple student organizations at NCKU, including the Student Council, Department Associations, Club Union, Dormitory Committee, and Graduation Committee, attended to show support. Additionally, upper-grade elementary school students who participated in the 2025 “Green Youth Task Force (綠少年特攻隊)” joined the event, demonstrating intergenerational and cross-campus collaboration in environmental action.
The NCKU Sustainable Innovation Club centered its activities around the theme of “Slow Sustainable Living,” responding to the modern need to embrace a slower lifestyle amid a fast-paced society. The concept integrates both mental and environmental sustainability, creating a campus practice that balances inner experience with external action. The initiative was structured around “Four Scenarios” and “One Spirit,” promoting four events: the “Sunset Radio Relaxation Festival,” “Lying Bar (躺 Bar),” “Transitional Justice Secondhand Market,” and “Lying Bar & Zero-Waste Store” activities. These events encouraged reducing noise pollution, minimizing resource waste, promoting recycling, and lowering carbon footprints through digital detox, aligning with contemporary interpretations of slow living. The activities attracted approximately 4,000 participants, facilitated the recycling of over 155 items, and 85% of attendees expressed willingness to adopt at least one green action after the event.
Fang Wen-Ting (方文廷), President of the NCKU Sustainable Innovation Club, emphasized that beyond promoting the concept of slow sustainable living, the implementation also incorporated sustainability across daily life dimensions, including food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and recreation. For example, the “Lying Bar” event provided snacks made from local ingredients and encouraged participants to bring their own reusable utensils, while the “Sunset Radio Relaxation Festival (落日電台放空聲活節)” integrated zero-waste event concepts and silent radio ideas to promote environmentally friendly leisure activities.
Deputy Director of the Tainan City Environmental Protection Bureau, Jen-Che Hsu (許仁澤), expressed appreciation for the enthusiastic participation of the universities and Green Youth Task Force students. He noted that net-zero green living is not a single large project but an accumulation of small, eco-friendly actions. He encouraged students to turn the lessons learned from the campaign into ongoing practices, bringing sustainable living back to their homes and communities, and making net-zero not just an idea, but a lifestyle for every citizen, guiding the city toward a more sustainable future.
Other participating colleges, universities, and Green Youth Task Force elementary students also shared their experiences during the event, sparking creative ideas for green living. After the presentation, participants visited Chang Jung Christian University’s black soldier fly breeding and eco-friendly chicken farm to gain hands-on insight into food waste recycling and low-carbon livestock practices.
