“Circular Economy Exploration Workshop” to Explore Daily Waste Reduction and Sustainable Resource Recycling
To implement sustainable development and integrate environmental awareness into daily life, the Office of Research and Development at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) collaborated with the Taiwan Circular Resource Foundation to host the “Circular Economy Exploration Workshop (循環經濟探索工作坊).” Using everyday scenarios such as “coffee consumption” and “mobile phone usage,” the workshop introduced the two core principles of the circular economy: the Biological Cycle and the Technical Cycle, guiding faculty and staff to deeply explore the infinite possibilities of waste reduction and resource reuse in daily life.
Chuan-Pu Liu (劉全璞), Director of the Office of Research and Development, shared with the workshop participants his team’s research achievements in the field of circular economy, specifically the “Recycling of Waste Silicon Crystals for Reuse” technology, which provides strong technical support for Taiwan’s semiconductor and energy industries’ resource recycling systems.
Coffee consumption and mobile phone use are part of everyone’s daily life. In the workshop, instructors from the Taiwan Circular Resource Foundation used academic research and practical examples to guide participants in exploring how biological resources can return to nature, maintain ecological nutrients, and preserve ecosystem balance through everyday coffee consumption. They also discussed how technological products can be optimized through design to enable component regeneration and material closure, forming a sustainable industrial cycle.
The event attracted enthusiastic participation from university professors, department heads, administrative staff, and undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students. Under the expert guidance of the instructors, participants broke down hierarchical and disciplinary barriers to brainstorm applications of circular economy principles on campus and in daily life. The lively discussions demonstrated the NCKU community’s strong passion and innovative drive for sustainability.
