NCKU Launches “Campus Advisor” Program, Help Students Navigate Uncertainty and Explore Their Future

To support students in navigating their academic and personal journeys, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has launched a pilot “Campus Advisor” program under the Office of Student Affairs. Breaking beyond traditional departmental boundaries, the initiative brings together a strong team of advisors from across colleges to provide students with one-on-one, in-depth guidance. Whether facing academic pressure, career-planning concerns, or uncertainties about adjusting to university life, students can engage in personalized conversations with a campus advisor to explore the limitless possibilities of their future.
Cross-Disciplinary Perspectives Open New Pathways
University advisors are typically faculty members within a student’s department. Why, then, is a Campus Advisor program needed? Hung Liang-Yi (洪良宜), Vice President for Student Affairs, explained the purpose of the program. In the current diverse learning environment, the challenges students face often extend beyond a single field of specialization. The core strength of the Campus Advisor program lies in its cross-college network of distinguished advisors. These advisors, drawn from various academic disciplines, offer interdisciplinary perspectives and guidance, helping students examine their concerns from multiple angles.
Lee Meng-Hsueh (李孟學), Director of the Counseling and Wellness Services Division under the Office of Student Affairs, further noted that Campus Advisors provide one-on-one, in-depth exploratory conversations. The program offers sustained and supportive companionship, addressing uncertainties related to academics, career development, or life adjustment. The university emphasizes that this initiative represents comprehensive on-campus learning support. Students are welcome to seek guidance on any aspect of their university experience, working together with a Campus Advisor to gain clarity and direction for the future.
Focused on Learning Support Rather Than Psychological Counseling Convenient Online Appointment System
To make the service easily accessible, the Office of Student Affairs has established an online appointment system. Students can complete their booking online by simply logging in to the platform and selecting a suitable Campus Advisor. Currently, advisors from nine colleges, along with two newly established schools—the Miin Wu School of Computing and the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing—are participating in the program, bringing the total number of available Campus Advisors to 21.
The Office of Student Affairs warmly reminds students that a Campus Advisor serves as a learning advisor rather than a psychological counselor. The program focuses on academic and life guidance rather than professional psychotherapy services. Students are encouraged to value the resource and attend appointments on time. Each booking is limited to one Campus Advisor per session. If students are unable to attend, they should proactively cancel or reschedule.
Connecting Resources, Opening a New Chapter in Faculty–Student Dialogue
The launch of the Campus Advisor program reflects NCKU’s sustained commitment to enhancing its student support mechanisms. In addition to providing students with a channel to share concerns and seek advice, the program also enables faculty members to engage with students from diverse backgrounds, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and mentorship.
