The 9th “National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Bank SinoPac Scholarship” award ceremony was held on the afternoon of March 11 at the 2nd floor of the Future Venue on NCKU’s Sheng-Li Campus. A total of 39 recipients, including both domestic and international students, were awarded scholarships. NCKU Associate Vice President Wu Ping-Sheng and SinoPac Financial Holdings Chief Human Resources Officer Chia-Hung Liao attended the ceremony, offering encouragement and personally presenting certificates to the awardees.

The “NCKU Bank SinoPac Scholarship” is divided into the Outstanding Talent Scholarship and the Study Assistance Grant. It is open to all undergraduate and graduate students regardless of nationality. To date, Bank SinoPac has distributed over NT$30 million in scholarships, benefiting nearly 600 NCKU students. For the 2025 academic year, 206 students applied, with 10 undergraduates and 15 graduate students selected. For the assistance grants, 65 students applied, with 7 domestic students and 7 international students selected.

NCKU and Bank SinoPac jointly promote the scholarship program, which not only provides financial support but also encourages students to continuously improve themselves and pay attention to sustainable development and social impact. Associate Vice President Ping-Sheng Wu noted that, unlike typical scholarships based solely on academic performance, this program is open to students from all disciplines, with both academic performance and financial need taken into account. “This is the ninth time the scholarship has been awarded, and we are grateful to Bank SinoPac for its long-term support of NCKU students,” he said, expressing the hope that recipients will leverage their strengths in their respective fields and create positive societal impact in the future.

The selection process for the scholarship includes document review and interviews, with a particular emphasis on students’ awareness of sustainability and ESG issues. Through a diversified evaluation mechanism, the university and the enterprise work together to cultivate future talent with social responsibility and a global perspective.

This year’s recipients shared how the scholarship has supported their academic and career development. A student from the IMBA program, Ming-Sheng Hsu, noted that while completing his studies, he actively participated in academic and leadership activities, continuously reflecting on personal growth and life goals, and hopes to give back to society with what he has learned.

A student from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Fu-Yun Chen, integrates research with entrepreneurship. Together with her team, she co-founded a medical technology startup developing a surgical simulation training system that enables surgeons to practice in a risk-free environment. She stated that the scholarship allows her to focus more on research and startup development, as well as on medical device certification and entrepreneurial skill-building.

A student from the Department of Business Administration, Mei-Ching Chen, shared that the scholarship encouraged her to push beyond her limits. She is currently preparing for the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) and a Google Ads certification, continuously strengthening her language proficiency and digital marketing skills in preparation for her future career.

Looking ahead, NCKU and Bank SinoPac will continue to deepen their collaboration and promote initiatives that support student development and social progress, ensuring that educational resources not only provide financial assistance but also serve as a key driving force in inspiring students to realize their aspirations and positively impact society.
