International Collaboration on SDG Data Gathering and Measuring -Global Issues
To cope with heat waves and the influence of food security from droughts, Ms. Hsiu-Ling Chen, professor from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Department of Food Safety collaborated with members from Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) to develop stress-tolerant crops and sustainable systems through specialized knowledge. Crops production is severely impacted by the heat waves which hit the record, the increase of droughts, the development of population, the decrease of arable land. Therefore, the threats from climate change and extreme temperature in several areas around the globe which result in the decline of the quantity and the quality of crops.
In addition, in the aspects of immigrants’, who crossed the borders, health, the research comparing Taiwan, England, and Maritime nations is an important social issue. Aging has been a global topic. The proportion of the aged population is 18% in England, 15% in New Zealand, 14% in Taiwan, and 6.7% in Malaysia in 2019. The countries mentioned above have plenty of Chinese immigrants. According to the census conducted by England in 2011, there were approximately 400 thousand Ethnic Chinese in the country; and there were over 1 billion in 2013. Besides, Chinese immigrants take part in second nationality in Malaysia, and 43.2% of citizens in the capital were Ethnic Chinese in 2010.
Some associations in the countries above offer education and friendly communication to the elderly. The research from NCKU conducted questionnaires during their assemblies. The country-crossing comparative research of the aging population of Chinese immigrants is a brand new task, which enables the researchers to broaden their research fields, and provide the public with a new vision to the aging issue. 12-month research helps understand various aspects of aging society in maritime cultural countries with an aging population of Chinese immigrants.
