Dean Yan-Kuin Su of the College of Intelligent Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing at NCKU expressed in his speech that the collaboration with DAICEL reflects a joint investment and commitment to future technology leaders. This partnership not only strengthens academic and industrial cooperation but also signifies mutual investment in future technological talent. The 3 recipients of this year's scholarship, each receiving NT$500,000 in research scholarships, are expected to focus on semiconductor technology, particularly in power device packaging technology, which will have a profound impact on global technological development.
Vice Dean Yu-Lung Lo of the College of Engineering at NCKU mentioned that DAICEL Corporation has had long-standing developments in the automotive, medical, and semiconductor industries. This cross-border support for international academic development aims to cultivate high-level research talents. The scholarships are expected to help students focus on their research fields without financial concerns, establish good cooperative relationships with enterprises, and provide more opportunities for students to participate in international conferences and present academic achievements to expand their horizons, thereby nurturing talents to promote the development of Taiwan's energy-saving technology and semiconductor research.
Professor Katsuo Suganuma from Osaka University, representing DAICEL Corporation, expressed that DAICEL, a global leader in advanced materials and chemical products, is providing scholarships to NCKU students for the first time, seeing this collaboration as just the beginning. Through cooperation, DAICEL aims to enhance the quality of key talents, strengthen research capabilities, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge technology.
The scholarships were initiated through the early collaboration between Professor Shih-Kang Lin, Director of the Sustainable Manufacturing Program of the College of Intelligent Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing at NCKU, and Professor Katsuo Suganuma of Osaka University in Japan. The two professors previously collaborated on international research on "Nano-volcanic eruption of silver," published in Scientific Reports, a subsidiary of Nature, and held multiple patents in Japan, Taiwan, and other countries. This collaboration was facilitated by Professor Suganuma's role as a technical advisor at DAICEL Corporation. This scholarship program is DAICEL's first establishment to provide scholarships to NCKU students across borders. The DAICEL Scholarship Program is held annually, highlighting DAICEL's continuous emphasis on cultivating top research and development talents.
The DAICEL scholarship selection process consists of three stages: the first stage is recommended by Professor Shih-Kang Lin of NCKU, the second stage involves an interview with Professor Katsuo Suganuma, and the final stage is a video interview with the DAICEL Corporation HR director. This year's recipients are doctoral students Yu-Ning Chiu from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Tzu-Hsuan Huang from the Semiconductor Packaging Program, and Yu-Hsiang Hsieh from the Program of Intelligent and Sustainable Manufacturing. The awardees will focus on core research in the field of semiconductor technology, specifically in power device packaging. The scholarships not only provide financial support to young research students but also offer valuable opportunities for studying in Japan, expanding international perspectives and professional growth, enriching their academic and research resumes.
