NCKU Installed Solar Panels for Social Welfare Centers with Love
St. Raphael Opportunity Center held an event called "Public Welfare Green Energy Model Launch: Solar Panel Completion Ceremony". Mayor of Tainan, Huang Wei-che, awarded certificates of appreciation to National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), TSMC Charity Foundation, and USI Corporation for their collaboration to install solar panels for the disadvantaged group. Not only does their contribution reduce the operational cost, but implements the goal of sustainable development and green energy policies of Tainan City.
Mayor Huang Wei-che stated that the insolation environment of Tainan is suitable for developing solar photovoltaic energy systems; therefore, solar panels are installed on the rooftops of the majority of local elementary and junior high schools. He showed gratitude to NCKU, TSMC Charity Foundation, TSMC Charity Foundation, and USI Corporation for achieving the aim of public benefits, and applied heat insulation coating on the rooftop of Swiss private Catholic Foundation Tainan City Center. The coating is able to produce 2700000 kWh of electricity with solar panels and decrease 10000000 kg of carbon emission, which is equal to planting over one million trees. Besides, the electricity cost saving can be allocated to financial support for faculties and students with their school lunches.
The chairman of TSMC Charity Foundation, Sophie Chang, appreciated the president of NCKU, Dr. Huey-Jen Jenny Su, and the team led by Roy Kao, the consultant of NCKU College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, for the collaboration to accomplish the target. Social welfare Centers will reduce operational pressure through renewable energy.
