Lin Hsuan-chu visited the New Taipei City Government with the 9th chairman of National Cheng-kung University Alumni Association of Taipei (AANCKU), Cheng Yu-feng, and the secretary general of National Cheng Kung University Tainan Alumni Association, Tsai Jing-futo make donation. Mr. Lin mentioned that alumni of NCKU are all over the cities in Taiwan and spread in different industries. The funds are from EMBA alumni and seniors. Since the New Taipei City Government’s performance on convenient public measures, the government is selected to be one of the donees.
The deputy mayor of New Taipei City, Hsieh Cheng-ta, appreciated the kindness from NCKU EMBA alumni. New Taipei City Assistive Technology Resources Center is the only one which is government-operated. The center promotes the “Speedy assistive device application service”. Over 900 manufacturers in Taiwan are in cooperation with the government, which allows citizens who need assistive devices to apply for and to receive evaluation and approval nearby. In addition, the government recycles approximately 13,000 second hand assistive devices every year; after cleaning, disinfecting, and repairing, they will be distributed to citizens in need without payment. The project recycles and reuses resources, which is eco-friendly.
The deputy commissioner of the Department of Social Welfare, Xu Siou-neng indicated that 170 of the 190 wheelchairs donated by NCKU EMBA have already been evaluated and distributed to underrepresented citizens by the center. The center allocates approximately 145 wheelchairs; after recycling and reusing, each wheelchair is able to assist three more people.
