NCKU & Global Partners Co-Create Green Future at RiSER 2026: Spotlight on Sustainable Energy Resilience and Smart Tech
The 2026 RiSER Conference was centered on the theme "Resilience and Intelligence for Sustainable Energy." The agenda covered a wide spectrum of vital topics, including energy storage, catalysis, hydrogen energy, carbon dioxide reduction, and resource circulation with high-value applications. These themes reflect the primary trajectories of the global transition to net-zero emissions and the advancement of green technology. The organizers envision this international platform as a catalyst for deep dialogue between academia and industry, enabling the sharing of cutting-edge research, the exploration of emerging challenges, and the formation of impactful partnerships to drive continuous innovation in green energy.
During the opening ceremony on the morning of the 16th, Chair Professor Chuan-Pu Liu, NCKU’s Dean of Research & Development Department, welcomed the distinguished guests on behalf of the university. He emphasized that RiSER is one of NCKU’s premier research centers, embodying the university's long-term commitment to high-impact research and interdisciplinary synergy. Through diverse research initiatives and international partnerships, NCKU continues to bridge local and global communities. Prof. Liu noted that NCKU has long been dedicated to innovative R&D with the goal of making positive contributions to both Taiwan and global society. He stressed that sustainable energy is a core priority for both the university and the nation; in the face of pollution and climate change, academic research and technological development bear a profound responsibility.
Prof. Liu further stated that the RiSER Center consolidates a wealth of expertise from outstanding faculty and researchers in smart energy and international cooperation. The center is dedicated to promoting forward-looking green technologies, cultivating future talent, and strengthening global ties to support Taiwan’s green energy industry. He highlighted RiSER’s vision to become a world-class research hub, assisting Taiwan in achieving energy independence and progressing steadily toward a sustainable net-zero future. He also pointed out that this conference serves as a vital platform for researchers and industry leaders to exchange knowledge and share experiences. The collective wisdom of global experts will help break through key bottlenecks in energy development and accelerate the implementation of innovative technologies.
Chair Professor Hsi-Sheng Teng, Director of the RiSER Center, expressed his gratitude during his remarks to National Cheng Kung University, the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), the Electrochemical Society of Taiwan, and the Catalysis Society of Taiwan for their steadfast support. Director Teng noted that this year’s conference built upon a strong foundation in energy storage—focusing on various battery technologies—while further aligning with global net-zero goals by incorporating critical issues such as the circular economy and carbon neutrality.
Director Teng also observed that as smart applications like drones and robotics evolve rapidly, the importance of energy storage technology has become even more prominent. To address environmental resilience and the demand for decarbonization, all sectors must intensify efforts to find solutions across materials, technology, and systems. He remarked that hosting this event at NCKU not only elevates the university’s research profile but also lays a solid foundation for future multinational cooperation by gathering numerous international speakers. He looks forward to the exchange leading to more concrete research outcomes and collaborative projects.
The conference facilitated engagement through various formats, including keynote sessions and academic sharing, allowing attendees to grasp the latest pulse of sustainable energy technology from multiple perspectives. According to the organizers, the active participation of all attendees—whether through presenting research, engaging in debates, or brainstorming new ideas—was the cornerstone of the event’s success and will be a driving force for global progress in green energy.
The 2026 RiSER International Conference not only showcased NCKU’s deep-rooted expertise and international reach in sustainable energy but also highlighted Taiwan’s role as an active participant and innovation driver in the global energy transition. By establishing a closer network of international academic and industrial cooperation, this meeting furthered the exchange of advanced technologies, moving together toward a more resilient, intelligent, and sustainable energy future.
