Synergy Correlation

NCKU and LITE-ON Technology Group jointly announced the establishment of the "LITE-ON-NCKU Joint Research Center." The inauguration ceremony took place today (2nd) at the Future Venue on NCKU's Sheng-Li Campus. LITE-ON's General Manager, Sen-Bin Chiu, and NCKU's Vice President, Woei-Jer Chuang, co-hosted the event. The center focuses on three major goals: interdisciplinary, forward-looking, and sustainable. It concentrates on key technological areas such as advanced power electronics, smart grids, and artificial intelligence. Beyond leveraging shared strengths to develop key technologies, the center aims to nurture talent proficient in theory, practice, innovation, and application, to advance sustainable and intelligent living and realize the vision of green smart cities.

LITE-ON and NCKU have a longstanding cooperation spanning 14 years. They have jointly organized the "Electronics and Power Industries Master's Program" since 2009. Moreover, from 2013 to 2022, LITE-ON collaborated with NCKU's Electrical Engineering Department Professors Tsorng-Juu Liang and Jiann-Fuh Chen on various industry-academia projects in power electronics and smart grids. In 2019, LITE-ON became one of NCKU's strategic partners in developing air quality monitoring systems, and NCKU has been involved in LITE-ON's Southern Smart Grid Research Center.

Over the years, LITE-ON Technology and NCKU have accumulated extensive collaborative experience and achievements in various technical research and development fields, including LED processes, riveting processes, and intelligent power conversion systems. They have jointly cultivated numerous advanced research and development talents in areas such as power electronics and optoelectronic semiconductor materials. NCKU, founded in 1931, has shouldered societal responsibilities throughout its 92-year history, actively participating in global civilization transformation. Undergoing multiple transformations, it has evolved into a comprehensive university with significant influence, dedicated to integrating theory with practice and fostering interdisciplinary innovation.

LITE-ON's General Manager, Sen-Bin Chiu, expressed that LITE-ON has long emphasized strategic development in cutting-edge fields such as advanced power electronics, smart grids, and AI, areas in which NCKU excels. This collaboration will combine the strengths of both parties to strategically position themselves in advanced research and talent recruitment. He emphasized the importance of staying ahead of technological advancements and providing real-world industry insights to cultivate resilient, capable, and adaptable future technology talents.

NCKU's Vice President, Woei-Jer Chuang, expressed his delight in the continuation of the successful collaboration between NCKU and LITE-ON over the past decade. He sees the establishment of the joint research center as an opportunity to solidify their partnership further. With an investment of at least 30 million NT dollars over three years, the collaboration between LITE-ON and NCKU far exceeds this figure. With 11 colleges, including the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Medicine, NCKU has abundant interdisciplinary research capabilities. He believes this collaboration is just the beginning, and both parties will promote high-quality academic research, practical applications, and cultivate outstanding future talents in line with NCKU's motto, "Born to Excel."

Building on their strong foundation of cooperation, the "LITE-ON-NCKU Joint Research Center" will continue to enhance the depth and breadth of their collaboration, strengthening industry practices and industry connections. As a global leader in optoelectronic components and electronic key modules, LITE-ON has a strategic presence in cloud computing, optoelectronic semiconductors, automotive electronics, 5G, AIoT, and other fields. By combining NCKU's research strengths in power electronics, smart grids, materials, and automation, the center will develop next-generation advanced technologies and continue to cultivate high-level research talents in these areas. This synergistic collaboration between academia and industry will drive research and development efforts and enhance the global competitiveness of both academia and industry.
