The joint event titled "Collaborative Research Presentation by NCKU Department of Mechanical Engineering and Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd. (KYMCO)" and the opening ceremony for the "3rd Phase Motorcycle Industry - Electric Motorcycle Technology Exhibition" took place on the afternoon of November 24 at the Mechanical Engineering Building Sanshing Lecture Hall on NCKU's Tzu-Chiang Campus. Attending the event were Vice Dean of the College of Engineering, Sheng-Hao Chu, faculty and students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vice General Manager of the R&D Center at Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd., Wen-Yuan Hsu, and Vice General Manager of IONEX at KYMCO, Chun-Hung Hsieh, among others.

Professor Chao-Chieh Lan and student Chun-Han Lin from the NCKU Department of Mechanical Engineering presented the research outcomes of their collaboration, while the R&D personnel from Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd. provided an overview of the company and its research achievements.

Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd., with its rich history, has significantly contributed to the development of Taiwan's mechanical industry. The company has accumulated substantial technical expertise and resources, providing opportunities and platforms for academic validation. The collaboration between NCKU's Department of Mechanical Engineering and Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd. spans nearly 30 years, successfully linking technological and academic aspects to achieve mutual benefits.

The genesis of the "Motorcycle Industry Exhibition Hall" dates back to 2010 when retired professor Hsu-Pin Ho from the NCKU Department of Mechanical Engineering, together with Chairman Shuang-Ching Wang (Class of '59) and CEO Hsien-Cheng Cheng (Class of '66) of Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd., conceived the idea of establishing a platform that bridges academic teachings with practical industry applications. The exhibition hall features technical documents and physical dissections of motorcycle subsystems, with regular updates aimed at introducing the various components of Taiwan's motorcycle industry, facilitating students' understanding of the application of mechanical engineering knowledge.

The first phase of the exhibition hall was completed in 2011, followed by an update in 2017 for the second phase. To continue their longstanding and fruitful collaboration, Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd. reconstructed the exhibition hall once again in 2023 for the third phase. This latest update focuses on research and development in electric vehicles, presenting detailed explanations and physical displays of components related to smart energy technology and electric vehicle systems.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at NCKU expressed its desire to provide students with an opportunity to experience cutting-edge motorcycle technology, inspiring innovative design thinking, and achieving the goals of industry-academia collaboration. As part of the event, IONEX, a subsidiary of Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd., specializing in electric vehicles, dispatched two showcase vehicles and three test ride vehicles, allowing attending faculty and students to experience the ride of electric vehicles firsthand.

The results presentation and opening ceremony of the collaboration between the NCKU Department of Mechanical Engineering and Kwang Yang Motor Co., Ltd. (KYMCO) took place on the afternoon of November 24th at the Sanshing Auditorium in the Mechanical Engineering Building on the NCKU Tzu-Chiang Campus. This event also marked the inauguration of the "Third Phase of Motorcycle Industry - Electric Motorcycle Technology Exhibition."
