NCKU Library Graduation Flash Event: Sunflower Field Offers Blessings for Graduates to Move Toward the Light
As another sunny graduation season arrives, sunflowers in full bloom in front of the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Library resemble graduating students who, after being carefully nurtured by their teachers, have grown into flourishing blossoms. To celebrate students’ academic achievements, the Library, the Office of Student Affairs, and the Office of General Affairs jointly held the “2026 Graduation Celebration – Blessings for Graduates” flash event on the afternoon of June 2, wishing graduates a journey ahead as bright as sunflowers, carrying the warmth of NCKU and Tainan into the next chapter of their lives.
The “Blessings for Graduates” flash event attracted nearly one hundred graduates, who freely moved through the venue, making sunflower crafts, taking photos, engaging in conversations, and enjoying refreshments provided on site. Before officially leaving campus, participants seized this rare opportunity to gather, leaving cherished memories of their youth.
One of the featured activities, “Moving Toward the Sun – Rolled Sunflower Graduation Craft,” invited graduates to handcraft an everlasting sunflower, either as a keepsake for themselves or as a gift to friends. The Library expressed its hope that one day, these handmade flowers will evoke fond memories of their time at NCKU and the radiant sunshine of Tainan.
Yang, a student from the Department of Occupational Therapy, shared that hands-on crafting is one of the therapeutic methods used in occupational therapy. Having a personal interest in handicrafts, she quickly signed up after learning about the event. She found the process therapeutic and meaningful, noting that the finished sunflower could serve both as a graduation memento and a heartfelt gift to friends.
The Office of Student Affairs also organized the “Success Launch: Future Ready!” activity, which guided graduates in using the “NCKU FUTURE SUCCESS+ Personalized Career Planning System” to access resources for further study and employment preparation. Participants who uploaded a selfie and photos of their campus life received a surprise gift package after completing the task.
Guo, a student from the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, College of Medicine, remarked that writing a resume is the first step in job hunting, yet many graduates struggle with where to begin. Upon exploring the system, he found useful resume and autobiography templates, which greatly helped with preparation. He also discovered job listings and noted that some company founders and executives appeared to have connections with NCKU, which gave him a strong sense of belonging.
The event also featured NCKU’s popular mascot from the Dcard community, “Saugy (腸太郎),” who joined the celebration to offer graduation blessings. Various props and placards were prepared on site, and students enthusiastically took photos with the mascot, creating warm memories of their youth. Participants also received limited discount vouchers for drinks at the Library Café.
Liu, a nursing student, shared that “Saugy” is very cute and widely loved among NCKU students. Having the opportunity to take photos with the mascot before graduation made the experience especially memorable.
The university stated that no matter where graduates go in the future, NCKU will always remain a warm home for all its alumni, with its doors open for their return at any time.
