NCKU Urban Planning Class of 2026 Graduation Exhibition "City Manual" Southern Tainan Showcase Ends Perfectly
The Class of 2026 Graduation Exhibition of the Department of Urban Planning at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), titled "City Manual," was held from June 12 to 14 at the Future Venue, with its opening ceremony taking place on June 12. Centered around the core concept of an "operational manual," the exhibition showcased the students' profound observations and innovative imaginations regarding contemporary urban development, successfully attracting nearly 500 visitors.
On the opening day, numerous distinguished guests from academia, government, and industry, along with department alumni, gathered to celebrate the event. Honored guests included NCKU Executive Vice President. Yuh-Neu Chen, Tainan City Government Bureau of Urban Development Chief Secretary Hui-Chen Lin, and NCKU College of Planning and Design Dean Dr. Xue-Sheng Zhang. Representatives from leading industry firms also attended to show their support and witness the academic achievements of the graduates, including You-Yi Development Consultants Co., Ltd., 3W Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd., Hsin-Chien International Design & Planning Consultants Co., Ltd., and Global Zone Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd. The graduation exhibition organizing team expressed their sincere gratitude to the numerous planning consultancy firms for their steadfast support along the way, which enabled the exhibition to be presented smoothly and earn high praise from both the industry and alumni.
The "City Manual" exhibition aimed to invite the general public to better understand the field of urban planning. The featured content covered diverse topics, including development around train stations, the wise use of wetlands, and the concept of efficient cities, showcasing the students' practical capabilities and cross-disciplinary integrated thinking when tackling multifaceted urban issues. Through physical models, landscape designs, interactive installations, and visual graphics, the exhibited works demonstrated the younger generation's unique perspectives and spatial planning techniques concerning "urban regeneration," "spatial planning," and "local culture." The exhibition not only welcomed members of the public interested in urban issues but also aspired to serve as a platform for dialogue among academia, industry, and policymakers, collectively shaping visions for the future of cities.
The three-day exhibition drew continuous crowds of professionals from industry, government, and academia, as well as field practitioners, alumni, and the general public, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere. Through the showcased projects, visitors gained a deeper understanding of how the urban planning profession addresses crucial challenges such as environmental sustainability, local development, and societal needs. The event vividly highlighted the vision and practical capabilities of the new generation of planning talents in shaping future cities.
