The "Taiwan Medical Library Association 2026 Annual Meeting & 48th Medical Library Staff Workshop" took place on August 19 and 20 at the B1 Conference Hall of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Main Library. The event brought together medical library staff from 63 institutions alongside library and information hardware/software equipment vendors. International representatives from the Japan Medical Library Association (JMLA) and the Medical Library Group of Malaysia (MLG) also joined the occasion.

Distinguished guests including Wang-Long Li, Director of NCKU Library, and Li-Hsin Yu from the Taiwan Medical Library Association attended the conference. Center Stage to the core theme of the relationship between libraries and people, the event addressed topics ranging from data science assisting medical decision-making, innovative applications of generative AI and library services, and legal and ethical issues brought by smart technologies, to medical humanities and the sharing of practical experience in medical libraries—allowing attendees to deeply feel both technology and human warmth along new digital paths.

In addition, library and information technology vendors shared cutting-edge industry insights, aiming to spark new thinking through multi-dimensional dialogue. Beyond the engaging lectures inside the venue, an academic poster exhibition was arranged outside, showcasing research and practical achievements by outstanding domestic medical librarians and teams, covering library innovation, collection resource utilization, and workflow improvements using AI.

The Annual Meeting of Medical Libraries serves as a pivotal platform for medical library staff across Taiwan to exchange experience and acquire new knowledge in management and information services. Today, driven by the rapid boom of generative AI and digital technologies, libraries stand at the forefront of innovation—actively introducing various AI tools and offering courses on generative AI applications to forge efficient "new digital paths" for readers and research teams. Yet alongside technical progress, beyond prioritizing library digitization, what matters most is preserving the human connection within the digitized library space.

The annual meeting concluded successfully amidst lively exchanges and a rich agenda. It is hoped that the two days of insights and exchanges will rally professional wisdom and collaborative strength, guiding medical libraries to uphold knowledge quality and value amidst rapid technological advancements, while injecting forward momentum—blending technological innovation with humanistic warmth—into medical education, clinical care, and academic research.
