Newly Completed Counseling Space Improves Campus Safety Network Quality
The Mental Health and Counseling Unit is an integral part of the campus safety network, and the implementation of the campus safety network requires the efforts of all departments, faculty, and students. With the increasing attention and demand for mental health among students and faculty, the Psychological Counseling Unit of NCKU hire additional full-time and part-time psychologists from 2019 onward, and will pursue various projects of the Ministry of Education and begin the renovation of the Psychological Counseling Unit from 2021 onward.
In the afternoon of December 16, the Counseling Team held a tea party to celebrate the opening of the Counseling Space. Principal Su was moved to tears and said that the students who passed away during her working period, whether she knew them or not, were actually regrets in her heart. Through this opportunity today, Principal Su also thanked every colleague who worked hard in their jobs, because the efforts they made were not for applause or praise, but just to do the best within their ability, and to work together to give more efforts for the school and for the students.
December 16, the NCKU business meeting also amended the school leave regulations, and will add "psychological adjustment " leave, to provide students with breathing space.
Counseling and Wellness Services Division, NCKU is located on the 3rd floor of the East Building of the Yunping Building on the Kuangfu Campus. Under the professional consultation of the Design Center of NCKU, the configuration of the functional areas of the Counseling Unit has been redesigned, taking into account the functional aspects and overall appearance.
The Group Consultation Room conducts weekly group consultations. Each session can accommodate 8-10 members and last for several weeks, improving the quality of service while enhancing effectiveness. Group counseling is more than just a group of people sitting around and sharing, it is about building interpersonal connections through sharing under professional leadership, and deepening one's inner awareness and transformation through the connections and feedback.
With the impact of the COVID epidemic, the establishment of remote services has become increasingly important. The Counseling and Wellness Services Division has also planned a comprehensive remote counseling system and resources, and obtained permission from the law to conduct communication consultation. The renovation of the space has placed more emphasis on the establishment of multiple consultation resources, including wireless network, video equipment, tablets, laptops, and video conferencing systems, etc., so that each consultation room can be used for remote consultation and counseling smoothly. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, many groups of clients have benefited from the counseling services, and the mental health services are truly unrestricted by distance.
In addition to the upgrade of space , the Counseling and Wellness Services Division has also introduced a variety of counseling equipment, including physiological feedback devices, VR virtual reality wearable devices, gravity blankets, etc. Users can wear VR virtual reality wearable devices to guide meditation and body scanning exercises to experience the current feelings of different parts of the body, so that the state of consciousness can become more calm and harmonic; physiological feedback devices allow users to immediately observe their heart rhythm, breathing frequency, muscle tension and other physiological objective data, so as to enhance awareness and learn appropriate self-regulation and relaxation strategies; gravity blankets stimulate pressure points on the user's body through comfortable weight, creating a reassuring, thick, and relaxing strategy.
