The 10th NCKU-HSPC 2024 Summer High School Programming Invitational, organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), has concluded successfully. This year, 505 senior high school students formed 182 teams to compete. After the preliminary and final rounds, the first prize was awarded to the team from the National Experimental High School At Hsinchu Science Park (NEHS), consisting of Yi-Jun Hong, Wei Wei, and Tsung-Yi Tsai.
The event was organized by Associate Professor Chi-Yeh Chen, who, along with his lab students, designed the competition problems. On April 14, 182 teams competed in the preliminary round, with 41 teams advancing to the final round held on August 6. Professor Shyh-Hau Wang, the department chair, hosted the opening ceremony, encouraging participants to engage in creative thinking and to demonstrate their programming talents. He also expressed hope that students will further develop in the field of information technology.
After the one-day finals, problem setters conducted a problem-solving session to enhance the participants' programming skills. The awards ceremony followed, with the first prize going to the team from the NEHS, composed of Yi-Jun Hong, Wei Wei, and Tsung-Yi Tsai . The second prize was awarded to the team from Taipei Municipal Chengyuan High School, Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Senior High School, and Kaohsiung Municipal Hsin Chuang Senior High School. The third prize went to the team from Taichung Municipal Taichung First Senior High School, including Chao-Feng Tsai and Yu-Hsuan Chiu .
The competition attracted outstanding high school students from across Taiwan, including participants from NEHS, Taipei Municipal Chengyuan High School, Taipei Municipal Chenggong High School, and Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Senior High School. After the event, the department chair personally guided the participants on a tour of the department facilities, allowing the high school students to familiarize themselves with the teaching and learning environment of the NCKU Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
The "NCKU-HSPC" competition began in 2012 and was briefly interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was later revived by Professor Yeim-Kuan Chang and Associate Professor Chi-Yeh Chen. The competition challenges participants to complete tasks within a set time frame, aiming to stimulate and cultivate information technology skills while also enhancing teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities among participants.
