The Academy of Innovative Semiconductor at NCKU and Commonwealth Publishing's Leadership Impact Institute have signed an MOU
Taiwan's semiconductor industry currently holds a leading position in the global landscape, and semiconductor management executives in Taiwan are facing dual challenges of multinational management and digital technology. In response, the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has launched the Taiwan Semiconductor Master of Management (TSMM) program starting in 2024. This program is designed for senior management and research professionals and is in collaboration with the Leadership Impact Institute of Commonwealth Publishing Co., Ltd. On September 20, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for collaboration in training high-level semiconductor management talents was signed at the Future Building, Sheng-Li Campus NCKU. Both parties will leverage their strengths to jointly cultivate management and leadership talents in the fields of AI technology and semiconductors in Taiwan. The signing ceremony was witnessed by NCKU Vice President Ching-Chang Lee, with the agreement signed by NCKU Academy of Innovative Semiconductor Dean Yen-Kun Su and Commonwealth Publishing Leadership Impact Institute Deputy Executive Director Xiao-Hua Liang. Nearly 40 representatives from semiconductor companies attended the event.
Vice President Ching-Chang Lee, representing President Meng-Ru Shen delivered a speech, warmly welcoming the Leadership Impact Institute and numerous industry guests. Vice President Li stated that NCKU's educational goal has always been to cultivate students with international vision and leadership skills, aiming for them to become senior management talents in the industry. NCKU’s Academy of Innovative Semiconductor has been a pioneer in semiconductor talent development, while the Leadership Impact Institute has also been committed to sustainable and managerial talent development. The collaboration between these two institutions is highly significant and will greatly promote the development of high-level leadership talents with an international perspective. Vice President Li emphasized that NCKU's capabilities in industry-university collaboration and research are among the top in Taiwan and are highly regarded by the industry. He firmly believes that the talents cultivated through this collaboration will be highly valued by the industry.
Deputy Executive Director Xiao-Hua Liang of the Commonwealth Publishing Leadership Impact Institute expressed her pleasure in representing the Commonwealth Publishing Leadership team at this significant signing ceremony. Liang mentioned her passion for history and how inspiring it is to see heroic figures emerge at pivotal historical moments, changing or creating a different future with their beliefs, determination, and influence. She sees today as such a pivotal moment in history. Liang added that the collaboration on high-level management talent training will involve influential CEOs in the semiconductor field from across Taiwan as lecturers. Through their international strategic thinking, practical experience, and entrepreneurial wisdom, participants will gain a better understanding of the international market and cross-cultural insights. Additionally, these courses will facilitate cooperation and exchange among participants, creating greater added value.
Dean Yen-Kun Su of the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor stated that Taiwan’s semiconductor industry has achieved a very important global position, but there is a need to think about how to maintain this leading advantage, especially in the current geopolitical climate and how to respond and adjust strategies accordingly. Therefore, NCKU has established the TSMM program with a focus on semiconductors, AI, and management, aiming to cultivate high-level professionals with leadership skills in semiconductor technology and management. The collaboration between the two parties will greatly benefit the future development of the industry.
The event began with a video that reviewed the past 30 years of development in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. The video highlighted Taiwan’s significant position in the global semiconductor market, attributed to the efforts and exceptional contributions of key figures, many of whom are from NCKU’s Department of Electrical Engineering. In response to the transformation of the national semiconductor industry, NCKU has established Taiwan’s first Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing, using artificial intelligence and big data as a training platform, and is dedicated to integrating interdisciplinary talents. The latter part of the video introduced how major Taiwanese semiconductor companies are actively expanding globally, setting up production bases and research centers overseas, and the growing demand for high-level semiconductor management talents with international vision and leadership skills in the face of global competition and technological changes.
The signing of this MOU marks the beginning of collaboration between the two parties. The Commonwealth Publishing Leadership Impact Institute will meticulously plan leadership courses in AI technology and semiconductors for the TSMM program, which will commence in February 2025. Through expert-led courses, the program aims to enhance students’ multinational management and professional knowledge, leadership abilities, and international perspective, boosting Taiwan’s competitiveness in the global AI and semiconductor markets.
