National Cheng Kung University's Million Dollar Award for the Preservation of Taiwanese Language and Culture
In order to promote Taiwanese language, the NCKU Taiwan Language Testing Center has raised NTD 1,000,000 to encourage students and teachers to engage in teaching and researching Taiwanese language, and held the first Taiwanese Language Scholarship Award Ceremony on November 25 at NCKU's Taiwanese Lecture Hall, with four teachers and 19 students receiving the award. This was the first and most rewarding scholarship ceremony for Taiwanese language at a domestic university.
According to Prof. Wi-Vun Chiung, the director of both NCKU Center for Taiwanese Languages Testing and Dept. of Taiwanese Literature, the award’s money was donated by many kind-hearted individuals and organizations. So far, nearly one million NTD has been raised, and in the future, there will be income from project donations every year. On the day of the donation ceremony, many donation representatives attended.
A plaque of appreciation was presented to 近藤綾, the granddaughter of 王育德, by 張復聚, Chairman of the Taiwan Romaji Association, to thank her for following in the footsteps of her grandfather, Yu-Te Wang, in promoting the Taiwanese language and designing pokers in Taiwanese vernacular to promote Romaji.
The scholarship recipients include part-time teachers, college students, master's students, Ph.D. students, and in-service master's students. There are four winners of the Professor 林茂生's Award for Excellence in Taiwanese Teaching: 杜仲奇,周定邦,陳金花,and 陳麗君. The winners of 蔣發太's Elite Award for Taiwanese Language Teacher Training are six students, namely, 王浚耀,李偲瑋,林可鈞,林鈺翔,許珮旻,and 曾力文. The winners of the 蔣發太's Taiwanese Heritage Award are six students: 王琪,王瑞豪,李家伶,林宜萱,林琦蓁, and 鄭智程. The recipient of 陳信從's Magnolia Tree Award is the student, 李寬宏. Two students, 王浚耀 and 郭倍里, are the winners of Professor 詹文聲's Taiwanese Scholarship for Foreign Students. The three winners of the 王育霖 Poet's Procurator Award are 林琦蓁, 陳緯彤, and 黃郁珊. The winner of the Professor 王育德's Award for Taiwanese Studies is the student, 蘇子淳.
