The graduation project “Dawn Club” of NCKU Industrial Design at Tainan Art Museum was opened on April 28,2023 at Tainan Art Museum. Nineteen exhibits by 40 designers were on display, featuring the United Nations Declaration on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), like health and well-being, industrialization, innovation and infrastructure, and sustainable cities and rural areas. Through these themes, the true meaning of "solution and statement" was conveyed and the future blueprint of the SDGs currently being implemented by NCKU.
President Meng-Ru Shen, Assistant Vice President and Museum Director Professor Ping-Sheng Wu, Dean of School of Planning and Design Professor Jian-Shiuh Chen, Director of Art Center Professor Min-Yuan Ma, Department of Industrial Design Chair Professor Chun-Juei Chou, Department of Industrial Design Alumni Association President Wu Da Chuan(吳大川), and industry designers were all present to give their enthusiastic support.
In his speech, President Meng-Ru Shen encouraged the graduates to face the future with not only soft power, but also with gratitude and contribution to society. Assistant Vice President Ping-Sheng Wu pointed out that the development of humanities and arts in the unified campus should not only flourish on campus, but also go beyond the campus to cooperate with major venues.
The curatorial team also led President Shen and the guests to view 19 outstanding design works on site. The green and white futuristic-shaped "New Type of Shared Mobility Vehicle" was one of the highlights of the exhibition, fully demonstrating the broad design perspective of future light vehicles. The "Urban Bird Symbiosis" and the "Wildfire Relief Mobile Carrier" show the ambitious goal of enhancing the safety and well-being of the world, each of which is worthy of a closer look.
On April 29th and 30th, they will be offering three activities: MU - an interactive bartending experience, KINSEI - a painting and storytelling experience for the Lion King, and a post-design cognitive board game experience for children. The exhibition is open to all Taiwanese and Tainan residents to register freely and join the "Dawn Club", which shines like a dawn moment and is carefully created with design aesthetics.
"The Dawn Club" is based on mystery, glamor, and lively elements from copywriting to visual design, aiming to fit the theme image of the club full of life and carnival atmosphere. The curatorial team member, Zi-Wei Su(蘇子崴), said that the dawn refers to the curatorial time when they laughed and sweated together, while the club symbolizes the harmonious and enthusiastic atmosphere of the teamwork of the Industrial Design department, and the mysterious fan club text is to let everyone immersively and closely experience the ultimate charm of the graduation exhibition.
The Dawn Club's three major experiential activities are divided into three groups of different works within the team. The number of participants in each group is limited in order to create a better experience. The organizers hope that when visitors come to Dawn Club, it will be like coming to a gathering place for the design process and rhapsodic exchange, so that the public can understand the current spark of design thinking and aesthetic collision, and can connect with the local area to realize the integration of industry and academia.
The exhibition took more than a year from planning to execution, and was faced with the problem of insufficient funding at the beginning, and spent a lot of time seeking corporate and academic sponsorship. Finally, with the strong support of President Meng-Ru Shen and funding from the Education Bureau, they were able to fulfill the "design dream" of holding the exhibition in the Tainan Art Museum.
According to Zi-Wei Su(蘇子崴), during the curatorial period, the team has invited teachers from different fields to each presentation. They directly shared the industry's design perspectives to meet the needs of different students, and provided moral and technical support, which, together with the active cooperation of everyone, made it possible to achieve such wonderful results.
Finally, as the senior of the Department of Industrial Design at NCKU, the Dawn Club would like to give its blessing to the next generation: 「Don't act within your limits, but rather beyond your limits!」 Zi-Wei Su explained that the graduation exhibition aims to present the results of four years of study, so there is no need to be too conservative in thinking, and there is no need to blindly pursue rationality and a sense of support, but rather to challenge oneself and be brave enough to draw the imagination of the future!
