Transforming Semiconductor Engineering Education: NCKU's Smart Machine-themed course collaborates with ADI, ANSteK, and iStuNet
The signing ceremony for the Smart Machine-themed course cluster took place on November 21 at the Department of Engineering Science, NCKU. This collaborative effort between academia and industry aims to create a cutting-edge curriculum to meet the evolving needs of the industry. Attended by representatives from NCKU, including Dean of the College of Engineering, Chyan-Deng Jan, and Director of the Department of Engineering Science, Wen-Fung Pan, as well as representatives from Analog Devices (ADI), Yao-Zhi Chen, Senior Regional Sales Manager, Answer Technology (ANStek), Fa-Yung Chen, Vice General Manager, and iStuNet, Chairman, Wei-Hsiang Hsu, the event marks a crucial milestone in jointly advancing towards a new era in semiconductor engineering education. This collaboration not only signifies the beginning of a partnership but also represents a critical step in establishing NCKU as a hub for nurturing talents in both software and hardware applications.
As society transitions into an era of declining birth rates, the demand for smart machines in various industries is on the rise. The College of Engineering at NCKU, being one of the earliest departments to embrace diversified learning, has long been committed to cultivating talents with integrated technological capabilities in electricity, mechanics, and information. Under the leadership of Director Wen-Fung Pan and the dedicated efforts of Professor Chin-Feng Lai and Assistant Professor Chi-Hua Yu, the university has initiated the Smart Machine-themed course cluster project. During the event, Professor Chin-Feng Lai and Associate Professor Ming-Tzu Ho shared insights into how to integrate industry forces to achieve a qualitative transformation of the course content. This initiative actively leads the Smart Machine-themed course cluster, showcasing an innovative approach aligned with industry practices. It aims to cultivate students who can transform theoretical knowledge into practical skills. Additionally, through in-depth dialogues between academia and industry, both parties explored the practical challenges and transformation directions of semiconductor engineering education. They collaboratively discussed how to enhance the learning experience by providing more in-depth and comprehensive course content, enabling students to better cope with the complex and evolving challenges of the industry.
Analog Devices (ADI), as one of the world's leading semiconductor companies with rich experience in Industry 4.0 and smart machine fields, has shown outstanding technical capabilities in this collaboration. Authorized agent Answer Technology (ANStek), supported by iStuNet's campus channels, has assisted the Department of Engineering Science and the Department of Electrical Engineering by providing hardware module resources and professional technical support. This support aids in establishing laboratories and participating in events such as the 2023 Smart Chip System and Application Technology High School Vocational Teachers Workshop organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Chung Cheng University and the course organized by the Smart Display Components and Audio-Visual Interaction Teaching Alliance Project. In this latter program, industry professionals are invited to give lectures, helping students deepen their knowledge of smart machines, improve problem-solving skills through hands-on learning, and enhance their overall development in theory and practice.
Dean Wen-Fung Pan, the project leader, expressed the profound significance of the signing ceremony, symbolizing a new starting point for joint efforts and collaboration. Just as the ceremony combines the blossoming of flowers, it is hoped that future collaborations will lead to a qualitative leap, bearing fruitful results for semiconductor engineering education and contributing to the mutual prosperity of academia and industry.
