NCKU Library Held Series Lectures and Book Exhibition for Generative AI such as ChatGPT and MidJourney
The generative AI software ChatGPT and MidJourney have recently gained widespread attention as hot topics, with various implications for academia. To provide insights and diverse perspectives on this graphic and textual revolution, the National Cheng Kung University Library is hosting a special series of lectures and thematic book exhibitions from March 13th to April 16th. These events aim to equip the university's faculty, students, and staff with relevant knowledge and perspectives to navigate this wave of change effectively. From March 13th to March 30th, the NCKU Library has invited six professors from both internal and external universities to deliver keynote speeches covering diverse aspects such as technology, design, applications, law, education, learning, and research. Simultaneously, a thematic book exhibition featuring 125 relevant titles selected from the library's collection will be held in the multifunctional reading area on the 1st floor of the main library until April 16th. Attendees are welcome to join the lectures via Webex online video conferencing or visit the library to read physical books.
The NCKU Library emphasizes that the recent surge of interest in generative AI software like ChatGPT and MidJourney has attracted significant media attention and coverage by prominent authors both domestically and internationally. Concurrently, universities worldwide are grappling with the impact of these technologies on education, learning, research, and academic ethics, prompting the need for appropriate measures, regulations, and positive guidance to ensure their beneficial use by faculty, students, and researchers.
Through this series of lectures and thematic book exhibitions, the NCKU Library aims to provide faculty, students, and staff with relevant knowledge and diverse perspectives to navigate this graphic and textual revolution effectively. Six sessions of keynote speeches will be held, with five conducted via Webex online video conferencing and one physical session on March 28th at the multifunctional reading area on the 1st floor of the main library's east side.
