Continued deepening of international exchanges and promotion of interdisciplinary research: Universiti Malaya visits NCKU
To further deepen international exchanges and promote interdisciplinary research cooperation, Associate Prof. Wan-Ju Yeh from the Department of Law at the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) College of Social Sciences and Prof. Sheng-Fu Liang from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science hosted a team from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, on June 14th to 15th, 2023. The visiting team included Prof. Dr. Norjihan Abdul Ghani (Head of the Information Systems Department), Prof. Dr. Suraya Hamid (Deputy Director of Student Affairs), Prof. Dr. Azah Anir Norman (Deputy Executive Director of Value Creation and Enterprise Center), and Prof. Dr. Sri Devi Ravana (Head of the Information Research Group).
On the morning of the 14th, the University of Malaya research team arrived at the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at NCKU, where they gave a presentation on student exchange programs to Vice Dean Hung-Yu Kao, Director Yeim-Kuan Chang, Prof. Chung-Ping Young, Prof. Wen-Hsiang Lu, and other faculty and students from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. They hoped to deepen international academic exchanges by leveraging the strengths of both institutions in information-related disciplines. The team then visited the Intelligent Information Retrieval Laboratory of Prof. Jung-Hsien Chiang, Executive Director of the Health Data Center at NCKU Hospital, to share research findings on biomedical information mining, smart healthcare, cancer, and stem cells. At noon, they held a discussion meeting at the Artificial Intelligence Biomedical Innovation Research Center to continue cooperation under the SATU project and expand benchmark projects of the College of Social Sciences.
In the afternoon of the 14th, Prof. Chun-Li Tsai, Director of the Humanities and Social Sciences Center at NCKU, and Associate Prof. Jon-Fan Hu, Deputy Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Executive Director of the Big Data and AI Research Center, jointly welcomed the University of Malaya research team for a visit to the NCKU Humanities and Social Sciences Center. During the visit, Director Chun-Li Tsai introduced the center's promotion of the university's core social responsibility tasks and further shared plans for promoting interdisciplinary research and cooperation through the USR HUB. Subsequently, Deputy Dean Jon-Fan Hu introduced the College of Social Sciences Big Data and AI Center, emphasizing the application of artificial intelligence research to social sciences and discussing the development of social data science, AI education, and joint experiences of online learning between the two universities. The visit aimed to expand international cooperation, interdisciplinary research, and talent cultivation between the fields of information and social sciences, yielding fruitful outcomes for both sides.
