RWTH Aachen University Visits NCKU to Discuss 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2026 and Future Collaboration
René Seyfarth, Head of Team Strategic Partnerships and Programs, Strategy China International Responsibility of RWTH Aachen University (RWTH Aachen), visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) on April 9 to engage in in-depth discussions on academic collaboration and to explore plans for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of partnership between the two universities in 2026.
Since the signing of an academic cooperation agreement in 1976, NCKU and RWTH Aachen have built a strong and enduring relationship. In addition to the university-level cooperation agreement, the two universities also signed a student exchange agreement in 2014 in the fields of electrical engineering and computer science. Since then, student exchange programs have been continuously implemented, laying a solid foundation for academic exchange.
During this visit, both parties discussed future directions for deepening collaboration, including expanding opportunities for student and faculty mobility and exploring interdisciplinary research initiatives.
According to Chair Prof. Sun-Yuan Hsieh, Vice President for International Affairs at NCKU, the two universities have co-authored 36 academic publications since 2018, primarily in the fields of physics and astronomy, energy, and engineering. He noted that the upcoming 50th anniversary represents a significant milestone, and expressed hope that this occasion will serve as a springboard for even deeper academic cooperation.
René Seyfarth remarked that the two universities share many similarities, both being long-established institutions with outstanding achievements in engineering and medical fields. The two institutions also have a shared focus on next-generation technologies such as clean energy and smart computing. NCKU is one of RWTH Aachen’s key strategic partners in Asia. He encouraged PhD students from NCKU to utilize RWTH Aachen’s scholarship program supporting up to six months for conducting an exchange and pursuing research at RWTH Aachen. He looks forward to further expanding collaborative efforts between the two universities.
This meeting not only laid the groundwork for the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration but also paved the way for future cooperation in scientific research, student exchange, and academic development. NCKU and RWTH Aachen look forward to strengthening the tie for the next fifty years of partnership.
