To encourage students to apply their knowledge and foster innovative and entrepreneurial thinking, the National Cheng Kung University Overseas Hubs (NCKU OH) partnered with National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Ho Chi Minh University of Technology (HCMUT), Dandelion Vietnam Limited Company (Droppii), and HCM City Medical Equipment Association (HMEA) to launch the "2023 Creative Innovation and Flash Idea, CIFI" competition. The aim is to combine university knowledge with students' innovative thinking, competing in planning ideas and executing projects, with the hope of cultivating and recruiting young talents and potential students with innovative and entrepreneurial thinking.
The competition offers substantial prizes for winners, up to 19,000,000 Vietnamese Dong (approximately 14,000 New Taiwan Dollars), including: First Prize 10,000,000 Vietnamese Dong (approximately 13,000 New Taiwan Dollars), Second Prize 5,000,000 Vietnamese Dong (approximately 6,500 New Taiwan Dollars), Third Prize 2,000,000 Vietnamese Dong (approximately 2,600 New Taiwan Dollars), Consolation Prize 1,000,000 Vietnamese Dong (approximately 1,300 New Taiwan Dollars), "Most Loved Project" Award 1,000,000 Vietnamese Dong (approximately 1,300 New Taiwan Dollars), and a special prize provided by HMEA to the first prize winner: company establishment subsidies, production line subsidies, office space usage, and workspace usage.
The competition is restricted to students' regions and fields. The online platform uses Webex Cisco, while the onsite platform is held at the NCKU Vietnam Overseas Office. During the promotional period, the competition reached a total of 52,182 people on social media platforms within just one month, indicating significant impact.
The competition is held both online and onsite, with an opening speech by Charles Lin, Director of the NCKU International Affairs Office. There were 51 online participants spanning 10 different fields, including Professor Nai-Ying Ko from the Nursing Department of the NCKU College of Medicine, Professor Yu-Yu Chang from the International Management Institute of the NCKU College of Management, Professor Huyunh Quang Linh from the Biomedical Engineering Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Professor Pham Le An from the Innovation Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Deputy Executive Director Hua Phu Doan from the HCM City Medical Equipment Association, and Mr. Pham Trung Hieu from the Droppii team of Dandelion Limited, serving as judges. The finals were held on May 31, 2023, with a live broadcast attracting 1,400 viewers, making it a grand event.
The competition featured 19 teams and 83 participants, including 37 undergraduates, 32 graduate students, and 14 mentors. Participants came from National Cheng Kung University (Taiwan), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam), Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Vietnam), Columbia University (USA), Hanoi University (Vietnam), Fulbright University (Vietnam), Banking University (Vietnam), a total of 7 different universities.
Through this competition, students have gained experience in creative ideas and industry-academia collaboration.
