National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and National Tainan Junior College of Nursing (NTJCN) signed a strategic alliance cooperation memorandum on the 7th, aiming to further enhance cooperation on existing teaching and related exchanges, enabling each other to thrive and create win-win situations, with the expectation of providing more services and contributions to the city and the country.

The signing ceremony took place in the afternoon at NCKU, with President Meng-Ru Shen representing NCKU and President Mei-Chih Huang representing NTJCN signing the agreement. Dignitaries attending the ceremony included Professor Yuh-Neu Chen, Vice President of NCKU, Professor Ching-Chang Lee, Vice President of NCKU, Professor Hong-Chen Chen, Vice President of NCKU, Professor Ping-Sheng Wu, Assistant Vice President of NCKU, Dr. Jing-Wei Lee, Director of NCKU Hospital, and Director Jui-Ying Feng of the Nursing Department, among other top executives from both institutions,Including South Nursing Secretary-General Sheng-Wen Hsieh, Dean of Student Affairs Hua-Cen Hsiao, Director of Research and Development Department Zhao-Cheng Hsu, and Director of General Affairs Department  Ming-Han Jiang.

President Meng-Ru Shen pointed out in his speech that NCKU is a comprehensive university with complete disciplines, and such comprehensive universities are only NCKU and NTU in Taiwan. With the infusion of national higher education resources, NCKU continues to grow and expand, but it also needs to drive mutual benefit for its surroundings, which is the social responsibility of a university. With a good medical system, nursing personnel are equally important in healthcare as physicians. As Taiwan moves towards an aging society, nursing manpower becomes even more critical. The strategic alliance between NCKU and NTJCN will effectively enhance nursing manpower. The signing marks the beginning of mutual benefits, and both parties should move forward from this starting point, fully exchange and cooperate, and strive for a better future.

President Mei-Chih Huang stated that NTJCN has a history of 70 years since its establishment as a nursing school, cultivating many excellent nursing talents. In recent years, in line with the trend of the times, it has added a Department of Elderly Services and participated in nursing institution evaluations to assist in improving nursing quality. In the near future, NCKU Elderly Hospital will begin providing services, and it can be expected that both parties will further combine in terms of nursing manpower and services. NCKU and Tainan College of Nursing have long had close interactions. The signing of the strategic alliance is elevating past exchanges and interactions to a formal level, with the expectation of mutual complementarity and prosperity in the future.

The cooperation between NCKU and NTJCN includes: sharing teaching and internship resources, sharing campus resources, promoting high-quality academic advancement, career planning, teacher training, and collaborative promotion of various academic and applied research projects for NTJCN's students.

NTJCN is the only national nursing college in Taiwan, with steady development. In addition to nursing specialties, in recent years, it has established departments such as Cosmetic Application, Elderly Services, and an Indigenous Program. The current student population is approximately 2,000. NTJCN has long had close interactions with NCKU, including NTJCN's students interning at NCKU Hospital, sharing NCKU's MOOCs, and providing nursing professional resources for NCKU's use.

The campus area of NTJCN is relatively small, and its long-term development may be affected. NCKU is a comprehensive university with a medical school and a nursing department. Both institutions are national universities. Based on the premise of vertical integration of higher education, strategic alliances are conducive to resource integration and optimization. For example, sharing library and student dormitory facilities can reduce resource waste and improve efficiency. In terms of curriculum, NCKU can also assist in providing a wider range of courses to promote research and innovation for both parties. It may even attract more outstanding students and teachers to NTJCN, bringing more influence and service to society.

Apart from NCKU Hospital, NCKU has recently established Elderly Hospitals and Sanduan Hospitals. The strategic alliance between NCKU and NTJCN will help students in their future employment. The cooperation between NTJCN's Cosmetic Application Department and the cosmetics industry has been well received, and NCKU can refer to the relevant experiences of NTJCN.
