Chengda participates in the "ESG Vision for Good Circle", actively practicing university social responsibility
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has been invited to participate in the "ESG Vision for Good Circle" initiated by Global Views Magazine, collaborating with both enterprises and universities to jointly build a sustainable prosperity circle. The inaugural press conference of the Vision for Good Circle was held on the morning of September 7th. Representatives from listed financial companies, traditional manufacturing, telecommunications technology, medical biotechnology, food retail, as well as 24 universities, gathered to advocate for ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance). With the core spirit of "cross-border learning, knowledge sharing, paradigm co-creation, and sustainable prosperity," they aim to embark on a journey towards sustainable transformation through a series of concrete actions such as award-winning project sharing sessions, visits to exemplary enterprises and universities, master forums, and online learning sessions.
University Social Responsibility (USR) is an important transformation trend in higher education worldwide. Its core vision expects universities to cultivate talents that are connected to actual social needs, actively participating in and contributing to local sustainable development, thus becoming beacons of hope for society.
NCKU's practice of USR is a crucial core of its academic promotion and development. In 2023, it received recognition from Global Views Magazine's University Social Responsibility Awards and the Citizen of USR Awards from CommonWealth Magazine. Notably, four teams were selected for the Ministry of Education's third-phase University Social Responsibility Practice Program. The practice extended beyond the 23 administrative districts of Greater Tainan to include the areas of Chiayi and Pingtung. NCKU was honored with the 3rd Global Views Magazine University Social Responsibility Award in 2022, setting a record for the most awards won by a single school. It also won the 4th Global Views Magazine USR University Social Responsibility Award in 2023, receiving the "Local Integration" and "Welfare Coexistence" awards, making it the biggest winner for two consecutive years and a sustainable model university for USR. Therefore, NCKU is honored to be invited to participate with enterprises and universities in the "ESG Vision for Good Circle" initiated by Global Views Magazine, jointly creating a sustainable prosperity circle.
NCKU, self-proclaimed as actively shouldering international and local social responsibilities, has officially joined as one of the founding members of Taiwan's first integrated platform, "ESG Vision for Good Circle," launched by Global Views Magazine, which integrates ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and USR (University Social Responsibility). As a partner of the "ESG Vision for Good Circle," NCKU will actively participate in sustainability actions along with enterprises from various industries, aiming to identify key strategies to address domestic and international sustainable development policies.
Following the inauguration of the ESG Vision for Good Circle, the first exclusive member event, the "ESG and USR Paradigm Sharing Session," commenced in the afternoon. NCKU has been promoting palliative care for 30 years. Director Peng-Chan Lin from the Palliative and Hospice Joint Care Center of NCKU Hospital was invited to share the team's experience in "2023 Welfare Coexistence Group First Prize: Good End at Home ~ Love Guardianship High-Quality Palliative Home Care." Director Lin emphasized that palliative home care can create a win-win situation for the country, hospitals, patients, and their families, asserting that "sustainable life" is the life education that universities can provide.
Director Lin mentioned in his sharing that during the severe COVID-19 pandemic, the palliative care team geared up to provide comprehensive care for terminal patients and their families. Despite the pandemic, the palliative home care team continued to provide 24-hour home care, assisting patients in achieving a good end at home with the presence of family members.
With the team's efforts and full support from the hospital, the quality of palliative care has been widely acclaimed. The palliative home care team received the Bronze Award from the CY Foundation's 10th Florence Nightingale Group and the Silver Award for National Biomedical and Medical Quality in 2021. In addition, they won the first prize for "Welfare Coexistence" at the 4th Global Views Magazine University Social Responsibility Awards in 2023.
