Grand Seminar Hosted by NCKU's Overseas Base in Thailand Draws Enthusiastic Participation from Taiwanese and Thai Enterprises
The MU-NCKU International Exhibition & Symposium on Medical Device Innovation & Medical Care took place from September 11 to September 12 at the Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry. The event, organized by NCKU's overseas base in Thailand, was co-hosted by Mahidol University and its college of Dentistry. The activities included an exhibition and symposium aimed at fostering collaboration between Taiwanese and Thai industries, research, and innovative companies in the fields of medical device development and healthcare.
Professor Waranun Buajeeb, the Director of NCKU's overseas base in Thailand, delivered the opening speech, expressing gratitude to all participants, exhibitors, and distinguished guests from Taiwan. Over the two-day event, more than 10 local and international exhibitors showcased their innovative ideas, seeking collaboration with stakeholders in the industry. The symposium also featured panel discussions with domestic and international experts in the field of medical device innovation, addressing challenges from innovation to commercialization. Dr. Wiparat Deong, Director of the Thailand National Research Council, emphasized the significance of the event and the support provided by the Thailand National Research Council.
Mahidol University President, Banchong Mahaisavariya, delivered his remarks online, congratulating the success of the event. He expressed his belief that this physical gathering could stimulate the development of medical materials and enhance cooperation and knowledge exchange. Special thanks were given to the distinguished guests from NCKU and all the enterprises and participants who contributed to the success of the event.
Professor Fong-Chin Su, founding director of NCKU's Medical Device Innovation Center, highlighted the milestone of joint research collaboration between Taiwan and Thailand. Given the challenges of an aging population, he emphasized the importance of medical and health care. He expressed hope for continued collaboration between Taiwan and Thailand to promote bilateral scientific research innovation for societal value.
Professor Chia-Hsiang Lin, the representative from NCKU's Office of International Affairs, spoke during the opening ceremony, noting the longstanding positive interaction between NCKU and Mahidol University. Since participating in the SATU Alliance in 2003 and signing a dual-degree program with NCKU's College of Medicine in 2014, the collaboration has nurtured future talents and facilitated the transformation of research outcomes.
During the symposium on September 11, Professor Mei-Feng Lin from NCKU's Nursing Department presented her research on "Innovation and Technological Development to Enhance Health Promotion and Prevention." On September 12, Professor Xi-Zhang Lin from NCKU's Department of Internal Medicine delivered a speech on "From Academic Research to Clinical Innovation." The same day, an innovative medical device exhibition was held, showcasing products such as vein puncture practice prosthetics, pseudo-nasal furuncle antibody testing, and diabetes medical food research and development.
Participating companies from Taiwan included T-ACE Medical, Taiwan MedFluid Co., Ltd. Vet Department, United Orthopedic Corporation Kaohsiung Plant, Taiwan Main Orthopaedic Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Aplus Biotechnology, Comdek, and Benq Dialysis Technology Corp. Thai companies, including Mundipharma Thailand, GlaxoSmithKline (Thailand) Ltd., Accord Corporation Limited, and Urban Studies Lab, also joined the exhibition.
NCKU's overseas base has three physical locations and one overseas Chinese language center at Auburn University in the United States, with physical bases in Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. The Thailand overseas base, established in November 2019 at Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry, actively expands international connections, strengthens local networks, and regularly organizes online forums and exchange meetings, aiming for international education, international relations, collaborative research, and industry-academic cooperation.
