In response to the era of "Carbon Pricing," the Office of Research and Development (ORD) at NCKU, in collaboration with NCKU Circular Economy and NCKU Sustainable Innovation Club, organized a series of lectures titled "Green Economy X Sustainability Transition." The inaugural lecture on October 16th was successfully concluded. The first session featured Mr. Hsiang-Hsu Lin, the founder of GreenHopeTW, who delivered a talk on "Capital and the Green Future: The Leadership of Finance in Sustainability Transition." He provided detailed explanations and vivid metaphors regarding sustainable finance and carbon, deepening participants' understanding of the importance of ESG and consumers in the carbon reduction path.

The lecture took place on the evening of the 16th at the International Conference Hall, Kuang-Fu Campus, in the second lecture room, with an opening speech by Professor Chuan-Pu Liu, the president of NCKU ORD. Professor Liu mentioned that in today's rapidly changing society, sustainable development, along with AI and carbon, is considered crucial for the future. He encouraged everyone to actively learn during their university studies and prepare adequately for future employment.

During the speech, Mr. Hsiang-Hsu Lin raised a thought-provoking question, prompting attendees to contemplate the relationship between ESG and carbon reduction. He emphasized that while ESG stands for environmental protection, social responsibility, and corporate governance, its true meaning lies in assessing a company's operational adaptability and financial condition in the ever-changing environment. He clarified that ESG is not equivalent to carbon reduction and cautioned investors to consider a company's performance and strategy in social and governance aspects, guarding against greenwashing.

Moreover, Mr. Lin highlighted the impact of finance on the industrial landscape and rules of the game. He pointed out that many banks currently offer advisory services for financing and bond investments, directing funds towards low-carbon and resilient companies. He emphasized the need for companies to make progress in carbon reduction and ESG to cope with financial pressures from consumers, investors, banks, and the supply chain.

Furthermore, Mr. Lin emphasized the crucial role of consumers in achieving carbon neutrality, stating that "carbon neutrality without consumer participation is a deception." He suggested that citizens play a vital role in carbon reduction, and the next stage of GreenHopeTW 's goals is to create a green business district around NCKU, promote sustainable consumption, and encourage sustainable businesses through personal carbon passbook service. This initiative aims to cultivate the awareness that "carbon is personal assets" among students.

The "Green Economy X Sustainability Transition" lecture series is the first sustainability-themed series of events launched by the ORD, with student organizations taking the lead. Four lectures are planned, attracting participants from diverse backgrounds, including different disciplines, grades, and faculty members interested in the lectures.

The second lecture is scheduled for the evening of November 9th. Please stay tuned to the NCKU Circular Economy and NCKU Sustainable Innovation Club Facebook pages, as well as official communications from the NCKU ORD, to avoid missing the next fascinating event. For more information on the lectures, please refer to the latest news from the NCKU ORD.

In response to the upcoming era of "Carbon Pricing," Mr. Hsiang-Hsu Lin, the founder of GreenHopeTW, has been invited to speak on sustainable finance and carbon-related issues for the inaugural lecture of the "Green Economy X Sustainability Transition" series.

NCKU's President for ORD,  Dr. Chuan-Pu Liu, expressed that in today's rapidly changing society, sustainable development, along with AI and carbon credits, is considered crucial for the future. He encourages everyone to seize the opportunity during their university years to learn actively and prepare thoroughly for future employment.
