[Industry Lecture] Google Taiwan's Managing Director, Dr. Da-Kang Ma, talks about AI's job opportunities.
The remarkable progress of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has given rise to numerous applications and endless opportunities for innovation in various industries. In a recent "Industry Master Lecture" organized by the College of Intelligent Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Dr. Da-Kang Ma, Managing Director of Google Taiwan, delivered a speech on the 24th. Dr. Ma emphasized that technologies like AI and generative AI can enhance work efficiency, assist businesses in developing innovative services to provide better customer experiences, and create new job opportunities in the employment market.
Dr. Ma pointed out that Google's goal in investing in AI development is to help each individual make work and life more convenient and efficient. Over the past decade, AI has become an integral part of our lives, with applications in various Google services such as Google Maps, Google Search, and others. This year, Google has introduced more AI-powered products, including immersive maps, real-time translation in video conferences, and the experimental service Bard using generative AI. These advancements can automatically highlight key points in meetings, categorize data in forms, and provide suggestions, further exploring the benefits that AI can bring.
Dr. Ma also highlighted that as we enter a new era, Google is using innovative approaches to significantly improve the lives of billions of people, assist businesses in flourishing, and help society tackle its most challenging problems. However, Google is well aware that AI technology comes with risks and challenges. In this context, Google established AI development principles in 2018, advancing with bold and responsible attitudes to develop innovative technologies. In the future, Google will continue to collaborate with partners to develop relevant practices and standards in a responsible manner to address significant societal challenges.
With the rapid development of generative AI, students inquired about the potential impact on workforce demand in the semiconductor industry as AI becomes integrated. Dr. Ma emphasized that the development, design, and manufacturing of many new AI cloud and terminal chips are ongoing. AI is merely a tool that aids engineers in improving design and yields. In the semiconductor industry, there is still a significant demand for global talent, requiring more individuals to assist in industry innovation. These new investments will generate new fields and directions of development.
Dr. Ma also mentioned Google's university exchange program in Taiwan and its various collaborations with NCKU. In his role as an alum, he encouraged fellow students to cultivate interdisciplinary skills and a global perspective, maintaining enthusiasm and positive thinking to create more opportunities for their futures.
The "Industry Master Lecture" series aims to provide valuable insights not only into industry trends but also life experiences for young students. Since its launch in 2022, the series has received widespread acclaim. The lineup of speakers includes executives such as Tien-Yu Wu, CEO of ASE Technology Holding, Tai-Ming Chen, Chairman of YAGEO Corporation, Bing-Sheng Wu, Chairman of Himax Technologies, Chun-Lung Lee, Chairman of Merck Taiwan, and other distinguished figures in various industries.
