ChatGPT "Transgender Art and Literature Exhibition" is on display at NCKU Main Library's 1st floor until May 23rd.
The opening ceremony of the "Transgender Art and Literature Exhibition" on May 17th was attended by Tainan City Deputy Secretary-General Tian-Hou You, Assistant Vice President of NCKU Ping-Sheng Wu, Secretary-General of the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights Zhi-Jie Jian, Tainan City Councilors Ingay Tali, Zheng-Xuan Zhu, Xiao-Wei Tsai, and Yi-Zhen Chen, as well as representatives from the offices of legislators Jun-Xian Lin, Ting-Fei Chen, Ding-Yu Wang, Yi-Jin Lin, Speaker of the Tainan City Council Li-Li Qiu, and Councilors Zhi-Jie Tseng, Zhi-Qing Yu, and Jia-Zhen Wang. With the witnesses from various dignitaries, the exhibition officially opened at the multipurpose reading area on the 1st floor of the NCKU Library, lasting for seven days.
This exhibition, jointly organized by the Tainan City Government, NCKU, and the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights, brought together 11 artworks showcasing the beauty of transgender diversity, challenging stereotypical gender imaginations and inviting viewers to reconsider the meaning of gender from different perspectives.
Deputy Secretary-General Tian-Hou You, representing Mayor Wei-Zhe Huang, expressed in his speech that Tainan is a city of cultural inclusiveness, and the city government endeavors to integrate the concept of gender equality into its affairs. Through step-by-step adjustments and corrections, the universal values of gender equality are put into practice. The city government actively promotes gender equality through public-private cooperation. This year, coinciding with the Tainan 400th Anniversary celebrations, the Tainan City Government, in collaboration with NCKU and the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights, jointly organized the "Transgender Art and Literature Exhibition," which runs from May 17th to May 23rd. Everyone is welcome to visit the exhibition at the multipurpose reading area on the 1st floor of the NCKU Library.
Assistant Vice President Ping-Sheng Wu of NCKU stated that respecting diversity, eliminating gender discrimination, and establishing a gender-equal and friendly campus environment are the principles that NCKU is committed to promoting. The university holds various gender education courses and activities every year, hoping to enhance gender awareness through education.
Secretary-General Zhi-Jie Jian of the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights expressed the hope that through this art and literature exhibition, the diverse faces of transgender individuals can be seen. The winning works for two consecutive years have included transgender individuals from indigenous communities, discussing the restroom dilemma faced by transgender individuals. Many winners also come from the southern region. It is hoped that through these works, a safe and rational social dialogue space can be created, allowing gender-diverse individuals to feel comfortable and free to be themselves.
In addition, the opening ceremony on May 17th featured a special appearance by drag queen Bai-Bai Deng, whose stunning attire added more support to the visibility of transgender individuals. To enrich the exhibition and promote the concept and actions of gender equality, there were occasional guided tours during the exhibition period, providing citizens with unlimited imagination about gender through on-site works and professional explanations. Moreover, on May 19th, the Gender-Friendly Club "TO•拉酷社" at NCKU held the "10th Tainan Pink Dot - Responding to International Day Against Homophobia" event. During the exhibition period, various organizations including the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights, Amnesty International Taiwan Branch, Tainan New Sprout Association, Tainan Community University, No. 6 Rainbow Street in the South, and the Hope Association also organized four lectures, inviting people from all walks of life to deepen their understanding of transgender issues through these lectures.
The second "Transgender Art and Literature Exhibition" was jointly organized for the first time by the Tainan City Government, NCKU, and the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights. It kicked off on May 17th at the 1st floor of the Main Library at NCKU's main campus.
The second "Transgender Art and Literature Exhibition" not only featured 11 photographic works related to transgender issues but also hosted four lectures discussing the history of transgender healthcare and advancements in related topics.
From today until May 23rd, the "Transgender Art and Literature Exhibition" will be showcased at the multipurpose reading area on the 1st floor of the NCKU Library. We sincerely invite partners from Tainan to explore the various possibilities of gender together.
