National Cheng Kung University’s (NCKU) 2025 Gender Equality Education Series Campaign will take place from March to June, featuring a diverse lineup of events including 4 gender forum keynote lectures, 1 gender-themed film screening, and a post-screening discussion.  The campaign is organized by the NCKU Gender Equity Education Committee, and co-organized by the NCKU Counseling and Wellness Services Division, Tainan Rainbow Pride, the Taiwan International Audio and Education Association, and The Garden of Hope Foundation. Faculty and students interested in gender-related topics are warmly invited to participate.

The “2025 Gender Forum Keynote Lecture Series” features a total of 4 sessions. The first lecture, held on the afternoon of March 3, is titled “Common Forms of Intimate Partner Violence Among University Students.”  Professor Mei-Hui You from the Graduate Institute of Gender Education at National Kaohsiung Normal University was invited to speak on this topic. She shared insights into the prevalent patterns of intimate partner violence among university students in Taiwan, highlighting differences based on sexual orientation.  Through real-life case analyses, Professor You guided attendees in recognizing signs of intimate partner violence, and offered practical advice on how to protect oneself, prevent escalation, and seek help when faced with a controlling or abusive partner.

The keynote lecture on March 10, titled “Challenges and Struggles Faced by Taiwan’s Gen Z Women,” will feature Vice Chairperson Wan-Ssu Chiang of the Kaohsiung Association for the Promotion of Women’s Rights.  Chiang will explore the needs and issues relevant to Gen Z women (born between 1997 and 2012), covering topics such as the diverse expressions of femininity—gender traits and characteristics, emotional culture among Gen Z women, and body image and sexual autonomy.  Through examining everyday gender norms that are often taken for granted, the speaker will guide the audience in understanding how such norms shape our perceptions and behaviors. The session will also offer insights on how to recognize these challenges and seek meaningful ways to break through them.  (Click here to register)

The April 18 session will focus on“Defense Mechanisms and Practical Approaches for Handling the Dissemination of Private Sexual Images.”We have invited Yu-Chun Liu, Executive Secretary of the Institute of Watch Internet Network (iWIN) and Director of the Sexual Image Abuse Reporting Center under the Ministry of Health and Welfare, to share insights on understanding and preventing digital gender-based violence and cyberbullying, with a focus on cases commonly seen in universities.  Through Director Liu’s presentation, students will gain a clearer understanding of the prevalence of digital gender-based violence and learn how to seek help and protect themselves in cases of non-consensual dissemination of sexual images.  (Click here to register)

The June 7 session, in collaboration with The Garden of Hope Foundation, will feature Han-Chang Chen, a prosecutor from the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office, known as the “Most Beautiful Prosecutor”in Taiwan.  Chen will lead a discussion on self-acceptance and identity exploration, encouraging the audience to reflect on the impact of gender stereotypes embedded in social and cultural norms. By integrating his work as a prosecutor with gender-related issues, he will examine rigid gender perceptions and explore ways to foster a more gender-equitable society.  (Click here to register)

The “2025 Gender Issues Cinema” event will take place on March 25 in collaboration with the Taiwan International Audio and Education Association.  This session will feature a screening of the documentary “The Forgotten Rearguard: Women's Escape and Survival Amidst War.” The film explores the wars from 1937 to 1949, which uprooted countless people in China and Taiwan. Historical records show that approximately 1.22 million people relocated to Taiwan during this period, with a gender ratio of 4:1 (men to women).  While war is often told through a male-centered narrative—filled with numbers, dates, firepower, and enemies—women’s experiences remain largely invisible. Most women simply followed their fathers, brothers, or husbands, stepping into an uncertain future.  This documentary serves as a journey of remembrance, shedding light on Taiwan’s diverse and complex historical memories. Following the screening, a discussion will be held with the film’s director, Pei-Chyi Wan, and Professor Hsiu-Yun Wang from NCKU’s Department of Medical Humanities and Social Medicine to further explore the film’s themes.  (Click here to register)
