NCKU joined the Tainan Rainbow Parade for the first time on March 15, promoting gender equality
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Counseling and Wellness Services Division and the NCKU Gender Equity Education Committee, after participating in the 2024 Kaohsiung Pride Parade and Rainbow Party Market for the first time, not only received enthusiastic feedback but were also covered by Broadcasting Corporation of China (BCC). The initiative was highly praised and supported by NCKU alumni, who expressed their joy in seeing the university's ongoing commitment and progress in promoting gender equality. Continuing this momentum, NCKU will participate in the Tainan Rainbow Parade on March 15, 2025, for the first time, inviting all faculty, students, and the public to join in and show their support.
The Tainan Rainbow Parade is entering its 8th year, with this year's theme being "Eight Immortals Cross the Sea: Walking Together with One Heart, Every Step Counts." The event covers a wide range of issues and identities, including digital sexual violence, campus issues, LGBTQ+ individuals with disabilities, gender diversity, and the challenges faced by women in both physical and mental health. These themes aim to expand the space for discussion and broaden perspectives on gender issues. On the day of the parade, there will be a themed market featuring local Tainan businesses supporting gender equality, a bar-crawl after-party, and performances by distinguished guests, including Golden Melody Award winner Ya-Wen Tsao, emerging singer-songwriter JOYCE, the Little Sparrow Band, and host-performer You Ren Na. The event promises to be exciting, so be sure to join in and show your support!
As a gender-friendly higher education institution in southern Taiwan, NCKU, through its Counseling and Wellness Services Division and Gender Equity Education Committee, promotes diversity and equality by participating in regional large-scale gender events. These efforts aim to improve the living conditions of minority groups in society, raise awareness of gender issues and minority groups, and assist in advancing gender equality in higher education in southern Taiwan while extending it to the broader community. This aligns with several SDGs, including Quality Education, Good Health and Well-being, Gender Equality, and Reduced Inequalities. NCKU is committed to implementing gender diversity and education beyond the campus, hoping that all genders and identities can shine brightly, becoming cool and shining stars that illuminate one another.
