The 7th National Cheng Kung University Bank SinoPac Scholarship Award Ceremony took place on May 16th, 2024, at the 2nd floor of the Future Pavilion. A total of 35 recipients, including both local and international students, were awarded scholarships. Ping-Sheng Wu, Associate Vice President of NCKU, attended the ceremony on behalf of President Meng-Ru Shen, along with Chia-Hung Liao, Chief of Human Resources at Bank SinoPac. They encouraged the students and personally presented certificates to the awardees.
The National Cheng Kung University Bank SinoPac Scholarship includes both Outstanding Talent Scholarships and Study Incentive Scholarships, open to undergraduate and graduate students of all nationalities across the university. To date, Bank SinoPac has awarded over 30 million NTD in scholarships, benefiting more than 500 NCKU students. In the academic year 112, there were 245 applicants for scholarships, with 10 undergraduates and 15 graduate students selected for the talent scholarships, and 72 students receiving study incentive scholarships, including 5 local and 5 international students.
Associate Vice President Ping-Sheng Wu first expressed gratitude to Bank SinoPac for their long-standing support and highlighted the unique nature of The National Cheng Kung University Bank SinoPac Scholarship. Unlike traditional scholarships, this program is not limited to students majoring in fields related to banking and finance. It also considers students facing financial difficulties. Some students present had applied multiple times before receiving this award. This initiative not only provides financial support but also recognizes students' perseverance and efforts. It is hoped that the Bank SinoPac Scholarship community will continue to grow and have a greater impact on society in the future.
In addition to academic qualifications, "The National Cheng Kung University Bank SinoPac Scholarship" also includes an interview process to enhance students' understanding and awareness of sustainability or ESG issues. One of the recipients, He Zhengxun, a first-year doctoral student in materials science and engineering, stated that this scholarship not only provides financial support but also allows him to plan for short-term exchanges abroad and participation in international conferences.
Two Indonesian doctoral students in the Department of Civil Engineering, Ren Yali and Gushata, expressed their joy at winning the Bank SinoPac Scholarship after several unsuccessful attempts. They encouraged others not to fear failure and to persevere, as opportunities will eventually arise.
Nguyen Thien Nghia from Vietnam, pursuing a Ph.D. in Taiwanese Literature, was a university lecturer in Vietnam and was impressed by the politeness and friendliness of Taiwanese students, prompting him to pursue further studies in Taiwan. He likened the scholarship to a ship carrying scholars, helping them navigate swiftly through the endless ocean of knowledge without the need for laborious swimming, making it a touching support in his academic journey.
