The iPAS "Net Zero Carbon Planning Manager" certification course at NCKU Carbon Neutral Hub has become highly popular
The transition to net zero has become a global consensus, and many companies are actively implementing carbon management to respond to this shift. National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) held the “iPAS Net Zero Carbon Planning Manager” certification course from July 31 to August 1 in the Department of Chemical Engineering, which exceeded expectations in terms of enthusiasm. After the course concluded, many participants expressed their hope for the introduction of more international certification programs related to carbon reduction and net zero transformation in the future.
The iPAS certification, issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and recognized by the Ministry of Education, is a professional engineer examination supported by the industry. NCKU’s “Carbon Neutral Hub” in collaboration with Kun Shan University’s Green Energy Technology Research Center, organized the “iPAS Net Zero Carbon Planning Manager” certification course during the summer. The course provided foundational and practical knowledge in net zero carbon planning management, aimed at equipping participants with the essential skills needed for the role of a net zero carbon planning manager.
Originally scheduled for July 25-26, the course was postponed to July 31 - August 1 due to Typhoon Kaimi. The organizers reopened online registration on the evening of July 29, and were surprised when the 120 available slots were filled the very next day (July 30). The personnel from the Carbon Neutral Hub expressed that, although they were aware of the course’s attractiveness, the rapid filling of slots was still unexpected.
Under the pressure of climate change and the net zero transition, listed companies in Taiwan with a capital of over NT$2 billion are currently required to prepare ESG sustainability reports. The Financial Supervisory Commission plans to extend this requirement to listed companies with capital below NT$2 billion starting in 2025. This increasing demand for net zero carbon planning management talent will necessitate professionals skilled in carbon inventory regulations, carbon planning management, carbon tax policies, and net zero technologies.
The “iPAS Net Zero Carbon Planning Manager” certification course attracted not only corporate and academic professionals but also graduate and undergraduate students from various fields. Participants came from traditional engineering and science disciplines, as well as transportation management, law, urban planning, business management, Chinese literature, political economics, life sciences, agriculture, architecture, interior design, industrial design, accounting, arts, and education. They hoped to gain essential skills for net zero carbon planning management through professional lectures, enhancing their career prospects.
In response to participants' requests for international certification programs, NCKU’s Carbon Neutral Hub plans to expand future offerings to include international certifications such as ISO 14064 for product carbon footprint and ISO 14067 for greenhouse gas verification. This initiative aims to leverage higher education’s critical role in carbon neutrality research, technology development, and talent cultivation, contributing more significantly to global climate change mitigation efforts.
