NCKU has established Taiwan's first University-based CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) to advance biomedical technology innovation and support startups and talent development. The CDMO integrates resources from the Comparative Medicine Research Center, the Advanced Medical Device Technology Center, and the Department of Oncology.
Starting September 30, the University-based CDMO will provide a comprehensive platform for early-stage research and preclinical validation of medical devices. It aims to assist startups and small enterprises with limited resources by leveraging NCKU's cutting-edge technologies, thus boosting the biomedical industry's growth and competitiveness.
The Department of Oncology, established in August 2017, was initially formed by Dr. Wu-Chou Su,Dr. Peng-Chan Lin ,and Dr. Chia-Jui Yen from Hematology and Oncology, and Dr. Helen Chen and Dr. Yuan-Hua Wu from Radiology. The department's oncology research lab was set up on the 6th floor of the outpatient building with support from the hospital and Dean Yan-Sheng Shen, officially moving into the Biomedical Excellence Building.
The Advanced Medical Device Technology Center, founded by Professor Fong-Chin Su, is a leading academic research unit in Taiwan, focusing on cross-disciplinary talent cultivation, innovative medical device development, and industry-academia collaboration. It has closely integrated with various faculties and clinical hospitals.
The Comparative Medicine Research Center, modeled after the US National Cancer Institute, is Asia's first medical school-led center of its kind. It aims to integrate NCKU's medical resources to create a new translational research base for innovative healthcare, expanding collaborations with international pharmaceutical companies and research institutions.
