Synergy Correlation

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) fosters a healthy, active, and highly motivated campus community. The university's 113th anniversary "NCKU Sports Season" features a series of sporting events, including a ceremonial "circle-the-campus" event on the morning of November 3 at the Kuang-Fu Campus Track and Field, warming up for the main anniversary celebrations on November 11. The event had 25 teams, each representing major university departments, with high energy and creative themes. Notably, the staff and their families participated, performing a creative "Snow White and the Magic Mirror" theme that was vibrant and full of energy, winning the Creative Gold Medal. President Meng-Ru Shen personally awarded a prize of 15,000 NTD.

The 113th NCKU Sports Season spans an entire semester, from mid-September to early December. In addition to traditional sports like badminton, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, tennis, athletics, and swimming, the season includes various activities such as spin classes, baseball, SUP promotions, and boxing aerobics. There are options for everyone—students, faculty, and staff alike.

The teams for the circle-the-campus event included both administrative and academic units. Faculty, staff, and students, usually focused on their respective duties, had the opportunity to interact and engage, further strengthening the sense of community at NCKU. President Meng-Ru Shen noted that the top priority for the university's development is the health and well-being of its members. He encouraged everyone to engage in physical activities to build fitness. Looking ahead, NCKU plans to expand the sports season into a full "Sports Year," with monthly sports-related activities aimed at promoting health and physical well-being.

As the teams entered with enthusiasm and vigor, President Shen observed the distinct characteristics of each team. The teams from the College of Engineering and the College of Science were neat and tidy, in line with their respective images. The College of Literature and the College of Management both used white as their primary color, but the College of Management's performance was more structured, while the College of Literature's was orderly yet romantic, reflecting the diverse composition of the university.

In the creativity competition, the Human Resources Office’s "Snow White and the Magic Mirror" won the Gold Medal. The College of Medicine's nursing department presented a traditional dance from Swaziland, performing the song "Sawubona Gogo" (which means "I see you" in the Swazi language), symbolizing respect and recognition for one another. This energetic and lively performance earned them the Silver Medal. The College of Planning and Design’s Graduate Institute of Creative Industries used characters from "Sanrio" to celebrate NCKU's birthday, winning the Bronze Medal. The ceremony also included the entrance of the flag, lighting of the torch, flag raising, and the singing of the national anthem. The torch was lit by the male and female captains of the track and field teams, Chen-Lin Xiao and Min-Hong Zhang, symbolizing the passion, energy, and unity of the NCKU community.

Following the ceremony, the "Campus Orienteering Race," which combines technology with the campus map, took place. After the starting gun by President Meng-Ru Shen, around 200 participants began the 2-kilometer race, starting at the track and field and continuing through both the Kuang-Fu and Cheng-Kung campuses. Participants used the "Walk and Jump NCKU" app to follow the routes and checkpoints. The app automatically provided a unique route for each participant, guiding them to checkpoints, where they would check in and proceed to the next location. After completing the 2-kilometer race, the app would confirm the challenge was completed.

The "Walk and Jump NCKU" app combines campus culture with physical fitness. It guides participants through the university's geographical environment, historic buildings, and installations, turning the race into an exploratory physical activity. As participants navigate the campus, the app provides brief descriptions of historical landmarks, enhancing the experience while promoting physical health.
