The "IMC DAY (NCKU Session)" event, co-hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and TSMC on November 8, 2024, concluded successfully. The event took place at the A1302 classroom at NCKU and was simultaneously held in classrooms 4263 and 4203 of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. It attracted over 400 faculty and students, who gathered to discuss technological innovation and industry development trends in the AI digital era.
The event was opened with a speech by Professor S. Felix Wu, Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at NCKU. The event was jointly planned and organized over a period of three months by Professor James Jenn-Jier Lien, Vice Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at NCKU, and Mr. Jian-Xian Lin, Technical Manager at TSMC. The day also saw the attendance of senior leaders including Professor Sheng-Chih Shen, Vice President of Academic Affairs at NCKU; Professor Shyh-Hau Wang, Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at NCKU; and TSMC representatives such as Mr. Mao-Zhi Huang, Director of the Smart Manufacturing Center, Director Xiang-Yin Shen, Deputy Director Yan Lin, Manager Zhi-Tian Zhang, Manager Jian-Xian Lin, and Manager Gao-Zhi Gu. The event provided a platform for in-depth exchanges on AI smart manufacturing and industry-academia collaboration.
The event focused on several key topics, including "Taiwan's Smart Revolution: AI Industrialization and Digital Transformation," "TSMC Smart Manufacturing Center: Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology," "NCKU Smart Manufacturing Education and Research: Cultivating Future Innovation Power," "TSMC Advanced Logistics System: A Modern Manufacturing Logistics Model," and "The Future of Smart Manufacturing: Technology and Innovation Leading a New Era." TSMC shared its innovative achievements and application examples in cutting-edge technology fields and engaged with NCKU faculty and students to explore forward-thinking ideas for the future of the industry.
A special "AI Application Competition" was also held on the day, attracting enthusiastic participation from students across various departments. The competition was intense, with entries showcasing innovative applications of AI technology across various fields, highlighting the creativity and strength of NCKU students. Ultimately, the gold medal was awarded to Jin-Song Dong, a student guided by Associate Professor Chung-Ping Young from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, for his project on "LLM Large Language Model Applications in Automatic EEG Report Systems." Additionally, a "Golden Prediction Award" was presented, adding excitement and fun to the event.
