NCKU Students and Tainan City collaborated in “The Glimmering Light: Longqi Local Imagery Lighting Installation Art Project”
The exhibition is held in conjunction with the “2025 Longqi Light Festival: Sky Mountain Festival”, seeking to highlight Longqi’s ecology and landscape, promote tourism, and bring attention to the innovative works of emerging artists from NCKU. This exhibition also highlights the practice of social engagement through art by the faculty and students of NCKU. It fosters connections between the university community and the local Longqi area through collaborative actions that integrate teaching outcomes and dialogues with the local community. These exchanges create opportunities for mutual learning and the establishment of meaningful relationships with the community. During the creative process of the showcased installations, the artists interacted with local residents and the broader community, incorporating elements from these exchanges into their works. The resulting pieces reflect the diverse facets and cultural richness of Longqi. By presenting these artworks and encouraging community interaction, the exhibition aims to inspire greater public awareness and appreciation of Longqi's unique landscape and culture, enhancing the area's cultural identity.
The exhibition and its showcased works are guided by Associate Professor Ming Turner from the Graduate Institute of Creative Industries Design at NCKU and supported by the Environmental Action Group of Tainan Community University. The theme centers on Tainan Longqi, inspiring artistic creations. The 5 exhibited pieces are "Under the Same Sky," "Heart of Nature," "A Glimmer Rekindled," "Woven Dreams of Bamboo," and "Cycle of Life." "Under the Same Sky" draws inspiration from the concept of the 2020 Taipei Biennial. Using the sky as a metaphor, the work reminds us that despite differing viewpoints, we all share the same atmosphere and natural environment. "Heart of Nature" invites visitors into a serene space filled with a tranquil beauty. Suspended ceramic fragments gently dance in the air, creating an atmosphere of peace and elegance. At the center, a heart-shaped lamp emits a warm glow, symbolizing life and connection. It evokes the rhythm of life, forming a harmonious and unified composition.
The artwork "A Glimmer Rekindled" uses the interplay of light and shadow to reflect the challenges faced by Longqi due to population outflow. Gradually dimming lights evoke a sense of solitude within the community, yet the interwoven patterns of light and shadow symbolize the hope of unity and strength among its people. "Woven Dreams of Bamboo" explores the fusion of natural and man-made materials. Hanging bamboo structures sway like a bamboo forest, showcasing the natural resilience and elegance of the material, symbolizing vitality and cultural roots. Under nighttime illumination, the flowing colors create a dreamlike interplay of light and shadow, representing the deep emotional connections between people. "Cycle of Life" integrates iconic local plants from Longqi with acrylic materials to depict the various states of life—flourishing, withering, decaying, and death. These forms are etched onto acrylic sheets using laser engraving techniques and embedded with warm-colored light strips, enhancing the work's reverence for life and imbuing it with a sense of warmth and respect.
