The 2025 18th CHCW Cup concluded with great excitement as over 1,200 teachers and students from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), National Chung Hsing University (NCHU), National Chung Cheng University (CCU), and National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) gathered at NCKU on May 24 and 25 for the annual two-day sports event. This year marked the return of the competition to NCKU after the pandemic and introduced new highlights, including a billiards tournament and a fun rugby friendship match. The host team, NCKU, showed tremendous momentum and once again won the prestigious Overall Spirit Award! At the closing ceremony held on the afternoon of May 25 at NCKU’s Chung Cheng Gym, NCKU President Meng-Ru Shen personally handed over the CHCW Cup flag—symbolizing the event’s legacy—to the next host, National Chung Cheng University, marking a successful end to this year’s event and the beginning of the next.
At the opening ceremony, Fan-Sen Wang, Chair of the Taiwan Comprehensive University System (TCUS), encouraged the teachers and students with remarks such as “Sports represent the collective strength of a nation,” “Sports open one’s mind,” and “Sports make life better.” During the closing event, he expressed special thanks to the staff from the four universities who organized the competition and shared that the intense two-day matches made him deeply appreciate the athletes’ dedication and fighting spirit. He reminded the participants to cherish the hard-earned friendships formed through the games and expressed hope for closer collaboration among the four universities in the future. He also reiterated that “sports are extremely important!”
In his speech, President Meng-Ru Shen warmly welcomed all distinguished guests and athletes, emphasizing that the core of higher education is sustainability, which begins with the physical and mental health of staff—“health of body and mind is the path to sustainability.” He stressed the importance of maintaining positive energy at all times and hoped this positive energy would start with the CHCW Cup. President Shen also noted that the wins and losses on the court over the two days were not the most important aspect; rather, the bonds formed and the memorable spirit shared were what truly mattered. He concluded with, “See you next year at National Chung Cheng University!”
The CHCW Cup, hosted by the TCUS, has reached its 18th edition since its founding in 2006. It aims to deepen the friendship and cooperation among the four universities—NCKU, NCHU, CCU, and NSYSU—promote sports exchanges, and cultivate team spirit. This year’s event featured 19 competitions, with a key highlight being the inclusion of billiards as a competitive event for the first time, responding to the enthusiasm of the billiards clubs from the four schools. Additionally, the inaugural “Fun Rugby Match” became a focal point for faculty and student interaction. Representatives from the four universities donned casual sportswear and took to the field to try passing and catching in rugby. The venue was filled with laughter and cheers, creating a warm and spirited atmosphere, making it one of the event’s most memorable highlights.
In the competition results, NCKU clinched first place with a total of 59 points, earning the Overall Spirit Award. CCU followed in second place with 43 points, while NSYSU and NCHU took third and fourth place with 39 and 35 points, respectively.
