“SuperGirls in STEM”: NCKU and Micron Technology Join Forces to Inspire the Next Generation of Women in Science
To spark high school girls’ interest in science and engineering, the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) partnered with Micron Technology to host the “SuperGirls in STEM” event on July 28. Held at the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI) on NCKU’s Li-Hsing Campus, the event welcomed 40 students from National Tainan Girls' Senior High School, offering them a hands-on journey through cutting-edge technologies. Through professional tours and insightful sharing sessions, the event aimed to ignite the students’ enthusiasm and potential in the fields of STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
The program featured a rich lineup of activities. It began with an introduction to NCKU’s Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing Studies, highlighting the college’s mission and distinctive development strategies. This was followed by a guided tour of the TSRI cleanroom facilities, allowing students to closely observe semiconductor research and manufacturing environments. Immersive experiences and expert explanations enabled participants to better understand real-world applications and the future prospects of the semiconductor industry.
A key highlight of the event was a career sharing session by two engineers from Micron Technology, who shared their personal journeys in STEM—from academic challenges to professional achievements. Their candid stories encouraged students to pursue their dreams with confidence and resilience, demonstrating the power of role models in enhancing female participation and recognition in science and engineering.
As one of the world’s top three memory chip manufacturers, Micron Technology has long been committed to promoting inclusive and diverse STEM education. With robust R&D and manufacturing operations in Taiwan, Micron continues to invest in educational outreach and female empowerment in tech—values reflected in their active support of this event.
