NCKU AISSM Demonstrates R&D and Talent Cultivation Strength, Actively Participates in SEMICON Taiwan 2025
This year, the Academy has received nearly NT$100 million in funding from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), the highest allocation nationwide. In alignment with Taiwan’s “Chip Implementation Program”, NCKU has placed strong emphasis on the development of third-generation compound semiconductors and advanced packaging technologies. The Academy will present significant achievements including SiC semi-insulating crystal growth, SiC and GaN high-power and high-frequency device development, advanced packaging laser drilling, and the establishment of high-power dynamic and static measurement verification platforms. These innovations not only provide more precise data support for domestic manufacturers but also help shorten product development cycles, further enhancing Taiwan’s global competitiveness in the power semiconductor supply chain.
Beyond technical breakthroughs, the Academy also attaches great importance to innovative education. In collaboration with NSTC and the Ministry of Labor’s talent cultivation programs, NCKU has developed a Metaverse VR Virtual Laboratory that simulates cleanroom operations in an immersive environment. This platform allows students to carry out process training and measurement equipment practice in a safe and interactive virtual setting. By integrating AI-powered tools and interactive learning materials, the VR laboratory greatly reduces barriers to entry, enabling even students from non-engineering backgrounds to quickly master core semiconductor process knowledge, while improving both training efficiency and safety.
Through the integration of technology research and development, talent cultivation, and smart sustainability, the Academy demonstrates not only its latest achievements but also its long-term commitment to the future of the semiconductor industry. Looking ahead, NCKU will continue to deepen collaborations with leading enterprises and research institutions at home and abroad, connect the semiconductor ecosystem in southern Taiwan, and actively promote advanced processes, packaging technologies, and ESG-driven sustainability, aspiring to become a key hub linking southern Taiwan with the international community.
This year’s SEMICON Taiwan will be the largest ever, bringing together more than 1,200 semiconductor and technology companies across 4,100 booths, and is expected to attract over 100,000 professional visitors. According to TechOrange, the exhibition has reached a record level of international participation, with 17 national pavilions, including first-time participants from Canada, Costa Rica, Lithuania, Sweden, and Vietnam. In addition to the historic expansion of national pavilions, international delegations from countries such as the United States, Chile, Africa, Spain, and Italy will also attend, underscoring Taiwan’s growing global appeal and its pivotal role in driving international semiconductor collaboration.

At SEMICON Taiwan 2025, the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing, NCKU will present its Metaverse VR Virtual Laboratory. This innovative platform simulates cleanroom operations in an immersive environment, enabling students to conduct process training and practice with measurement equipment in a virtual setting. Integrated with AI-powered tools and interactive learning materials, the platform significantly lowers the barriers to entry, making it easier for students from non-engineering backgrounds to gain hands-on experience and enter the field of semiconductor manufacturing.

NCKU’s Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing will actively participate in the world-class semiconductor event, SEMICON Taiwan 2025, taking place from September 10 to 12. The Academy will showcase a wide range of cutting-edge technologies, advanced equipment, and achievements in talent cultivation. The exhibition will be held at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 2, 1st Floor, Booth P5300. We sincerely welcome you to visit us.
