Vietnamese Student Association at National Cheng Kung University (VSA-NCKU) has launched the Vietnam Cultural Week 2026 (VCW2026), which starts from April 14, 2026. Centered on Vietnam’s Dong Son culture, VCW2026 features a range of activities, including a photo exhibition, cuisine showcase, interactive exhibition of traditional games, and performances. The event is free of charge, and all are welcome to enjoy the beauty of Vietnamese culture.
VCW2026 is an annual event organized by the VSA-NCKU to introduce Vietnam’s image to Taiwanese and international friends, thereby enhancing mutual understanding and promoting Vietnam’s integration with the world. The Dong Son bronze drum is an iconic symbol of Dong Son culture and the Red River civilization during the Hung Kings’ era. For generations, it has been a sacred image in Vietnamese identity. It has represented the essence of Vietnamese culture, embodying refined thinking, craftsmanship, and aesthetics for thousands of years. Inspired by the Dong Son period, with the theme “The Spirit of Dong Son,” VCW2026 invites everybody on a journey to explore Vietnam’s most authentic and sacred values. This event is where past and present intertwine, as we come together to recreate and share Vietnam’s pride with the international community.
VCW 2026 features three main events. The first main event is the Dong Son culture photo exhibition at the hallway of NCKU Student Activity Center (from April 14 to April 18). It showcases ancient Vietnamese culture while emphasizing the indispensable role of Dong Son bronze drums in the spiritual life of the Vietnamese people from the Dong Son period to the present. The second main event is the Vietnamese cultural display and interactive experience on April 18 from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. at NCKU Student Activity Center, featuring a variety of unique booths, including cuisine, traditional costumes, calligraphy, folk games, and souvenirs. Finally, VCW 2026 will conclude with a performance night on Saturday, April 18 (free admission from 6 p.m.; the performance begins at 7 p.m.), at Cheng Kung Auditorium with 9 unique art performances and an exciting lucky draw program.
Tainan has Dongshan District (東山區), while Vietnam has Dong Son culture. The Dong Son culture of Vietnam is an ancient civilization from the Bronze Age of Southeast Asia, dating back around 3,000 years, with its core in the Red River region of northern Vietnam. The highlight of VCW2026 is the Dong Son bronze drum. It will be introduced to audiences and international visitors through diverse and immersive experiences that engage all the senses. In addition to the traditional main force of Vietnamese students from NCKU, the performances also feature students from universities in southern Taiwan such as Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU), Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST), and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST).
We hold our gratitude to the unique content and strong and constant support from the following units: Office of International Affairs at NCKU, the Vietnam Taiwan Cultural Association (社團法人台越文化協會), the NCKU Center for Vietnamese Studies, and the NCKU Student Development and Activities Division (NCKU SDAD).
