NCKU Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences (CHASS) announced that they officially joined The Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI) and will dedicate themself to research and development of global Humanities and Social Sciences. They expect to explore social issues in a macroscopic view, follow the modern research trend, enhance international cooperation in academic fields, and improve international competitiveness and influence of NCKU.
Director of CHASS, Su-lin Yu, stated that Humanities and Social Sciences is the best field to show the social and cultural vitality of Taiwan. Since NCKU joined CHCI in Oct. 2021, not only did CHASS’ research objective increase from local to global issue, but also introduced multicultural heritage of Taiwan worldwide, and showed plentiful research results and knowledge capacity of NCKU.
CHCI was established in 1988, consisting of colleges of humanities in top research universities, local research centers for humanities and independent research institutes from all over the world. The number of members exceeds 250 so far in America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. Prof. Su-lin Yu stated that by joining CHCI, CHASS increased its international visibility in the field of humanities and also earned recognition for its all research results in past. They expect to hold conferences and interagency interviews regularly, or cooperate in global issue research and conduct teacher-student exchange internationally. They will spread humanistic spirit and featured research of NCKU worldwide, and pay global humanities communities with fruitful results.
Since its establishment in 2007, NCKU CHASS has found active interdisciplinary research communities, integrated concerned departments in NCKU and research resources at home and abroad, and developed subjectivities of Taiwan.
Prof. Su-lin Yu stated that as far as the international cooperation network is concerned, NCKU CHASS has kept a close relationship with Japan, Hongkong, and other East Asia countries’ research institutes, conducting international cooperative research and scholar exchange regularly. NCKU CHASS leads a number of special projects, not only integrated interdisciplinary subjects in a humane and innovative way, also connected the social and academic communities with social practice projects. In the course of research, they trained lots of young scholars to be the middleman between different departments and faced the challenges in multicultural society.
The purpose of CHCI is to provide a platform for research and exchange in the field of humanities, establish the network between members to convey knowledge and information, develop innovative methods to conduct interdisciplinary cooperation for the field of humanities and social science , promote the progress of humanities researches all over the world. Also take advantage of members’ network to deal with urgent social issues distributedly.
