NCKU HSSC and Universitas Indonesia Sign MOU to Advance Healthy Aging and Community Practice
The signing ceremony was represented by Prof. Cheng-Ta Yang, Director of the NCKU HSSC, and Prof. Dr. Tutik Sri Hariyati (Prof. Roro), Dean of the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Indonesia. In addition to Dean Roro leading a delegation of 6 doctoral students, the event was witnessed by Associate Director En-Yu Huang of NCKU HSSC, Prof. Li-Chiuan Lin from the Institute of Physical Education, Health and Leisure Studies, Prof. Yu-Yun Hsu, Director of the Department of Nursing, and Prof. Miao-Fen Yen, marking a significant new milestone in their bilateral collaboration.
This partnership builds upon years of continuous exchange and mutual trust. In 2025, Dean Roro led a faculty and student delegation to NCKU to engage with the university's Ministry of Education University Social Responsibility (USR) international cooperative project, "Urban-Rural Synergy for Sustainable Healthy Living: East Asian Connections." During their visit, they toured Changsheng Village in Tainan, where NCKU has long been rooted, and experienced local community health promotion activities such as battle drumming and Nordic walking firsthand. This gave the delegation deep insight into how NCKU integrates USR, interdisciplinary expertise, and community engagement to advance healthy aging and local sustainable development.
Later that same year, the NCKU team paid a return visit to Indonesia, introducing battle drumming to UI's campus for a joint performance and sharing Taiwan's experience in healthy aging promotion and community practice. Through successive visits, dialogues, and cultural exchanges, both sides built strong mutual trust, laying a solid foundation for today's agreement. Looking ahead, the two institutions will translate these experiences into cross-border research and practical initiatives, sharing Taiwan's models for healthy aging promotion and community co-existence to build a collaborative platform for facing aging society challenges together.
Prof. Cheng-Ta Yang, Director of the NCKU HSSC, stated that NCKU and UI's Faculty of Nursing have already built a solid foundation of cooperation in healthcare, and this signing signifies a transition into a long-term strategic partnership. He emphasized, "Today's signing is not the completion of a document, but the beginning of a commitment. Truly valuable knowledge should step into the community, respond to societal needs, and create greater impact through international collaboration."
Prof. Roro, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing at Universitas Indonesia, noted that through mutual visits and academic exchanges over recent years, both sides have developed a deep bond. She specifically mentioned that three NCKU graduate students visited UI last year, gaining immense value from research sharing and academic dialogues, which laid a crucial foundation for this partnership. She expressed eagerness to further deepen research collaboration, faculty-student exchanges, and talent cultivation to nurture future healthcare professionals with a global perspective.
This partnership not only strengthens the alliance between the two universities but also showcases NCKU's achievements in promoting healthy aging and community practice centered around USR values. Moving forward, both institutions will continue to combine local experience with academic strength through short-term workshops, interdisciplinary projects, and faculty-student exchanges. Starting from Tainan communities, they will work together to develop innovative strategies for aging societies, establishing a benchmark USR model that bridges local implementation with global connectivity.
