NCKU partnered with the Tainan City Government to create an inclusive sports space. The "Love Sports, Barrier-free Movement" touring sports coaching team was established by the NCKU Physical Education Office to promote sports among people with disabilities. On June 28th, a successful display-tech basketball camp was held at the NCKU Kuang-Fu Campus, attended by officials including Yi-Lin Wang, Director of the Tainan City Government Sports Bureau, Mei-Ching Guo, Supervisor of the Goodness Social Welfare Foundation, Sheng-Chih Shen, Vice President of Academic Affairs at NCKU, and Hsien-Che Huang, Director of the NCKU Physical Education Office.
Dr. Hong-Chun Huang, assistant professor at NCKU's Physical Education Office and leader of the "Love Sports, Barrier-free Movement" initiative, highlighted the program's efforts to promote sports among people with disabilities. By integrating professional instructors and diverse fitness programs, they aim to provide a safe and welcoming sports environment to promote physical and mental health.
The basketball training camp incorporated cutting-edge display technology, enhancing the sports experience for participants. Additionally, Dr. Hsin-Shih Lin, assistant professor at NCKU's Sports Office, and the women's basketball team joined the event to provide high-quality training for disabled children.
Dr. Lin expressed hope that the women's basketball team could demonstrate the spirit of "taking from society and giving back to society," learning through the process of giving. The team members were glad for the opportunity to contribute to society through their skills and interact with the participants, expressing a desire for similar events in the future. They even surprised the participants with commemorative gifts.
Dr. Shen emphasized NCKU's commitment to social responsibility through its University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives. He hoped that by reaching out to disadvantaged groups in Tainan, NCKU could bridge the gap between the university and the community. Director Wang of the Tainan City Government Sports Bureau appreciated the involvement of the NCKU women's basketball team and the application of advanced sports science, providing a unique experience for disabled children. He expressed a desire for future collaborations to leverage sports science to create better sporting environments for disadvantaged groups.
