Focusing on Quantum, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology, President Shen Led NCKU Delegation to Visit Grenoble Alpes University.
Led by President Meng-Ru Shen, , National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) delegation visited its French partner university, Grenoble Alpes University (Université Grenoble Alpes, UGA) on October 16th. This visit focused on administrative faculties meeting of both universities, academic exchanges, and the Quantum Workshop. Emphasizing on quantum science, microelectronics, and nanotechnology, both UGA and NCKU dedicated to deepening bilateral international collaborations, expanding global connections, and strengthening their partnership.
On Oct. 16th morning, local time in France, President Meng-Ru Shen met UGA President Yassine Lakhnech and discussed diverse research aspects, including NCKU-UGA collaborations, the development of academic partnership, and opportunities for the research cooperation and student exchanges. Looking forward to invigorating academic collaborations and aiming to enhance academic influences by interdisciplinary innovative research, UGA President Yassine Lakhnech, Vice President for International Affairs Karine Samuel, Vice President for Research and Innovation Hervé Courtois, and UGA’s academic representatives heartily welcomed NCKU delegation. NCKU-UGA meeting centered on international strategic development, collaborations on microelectronics, quantum science, and nanotechnology, which will enhance joint research, facilitate academic exchanges, and encourage collaborative initiatives, such as student exchanges, short-term internships, and course platforms in the future.
The primary event of Oct. 16th afternoon was the Quantum Workshop, held at the Institut Néel in Grenoble, which was organized jointly by NCKU's QFort and Grenoble QuantAlps. Laurence Manaus, Director of Institut Néel, hosted the workshop, and then President Meng-Ru Shen delivered a speech in the opening ceremony. President Shen anticipated that this workshop would booster cooperations between the two universities. QFort Director Tse-Ming Chen, QFort Deputy Director Yeong-Cherng Liang, Dr. Meng-Hsueh Chiang, Dr. Chien-Lung Huang, and scholars of UGA, delivered keynote speeches during the workshop. Looking ahead to the development of Quantum center, quantum theory, Qquantum optics, Qquantum materials, scholars from QuantAlps, UGA and NCKU also engaged in discussions and exchanged academic research opinions and results.
NCKU delegation included President Meng-Ru Shen, Executive Vice PresidentHong-Chen Chen, the Center for Advanced Quantum Science and Technology Director Tse-Ming Chen, QFort Deputy Director Yeong-Cherng Liang, Department of Electrical Engineering ChairMeng-Hsueh Chiang, Institute of Microelectronincs Wei-Chen Tu, Department of Mathematics Associate Professor Ching-Jui Lai, Department of Physics Assistant Professor Chien-Lung Huang, and Division of International Relations Deputy Director Cindy Su.
Grenoble Alpes University (UGA) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) signed MOU and began mutual cooperations, such as student semester exchanges and academic cooperations on physics and astronomy, earth sciences, materials chemistry, and biomedical sciences since 2019. In the end of September 2023, just two weeks ahead this visit, NCKU joined the Campus-in-Campus Initiative (CiC) and expected to facilitate more students and faculties exchanges with UGA, also one of the members of CiC. Earlier than this visit, UGA’s president and Vice President visited NCKU in July and March this year respectively. Having initiated discussions on quantum science, microelectronics, earth sciences, computer science, mathematics, innovative entrepreneurship, and student exchange, UGA and NCKU have achieved consensus on building a more concrete collaboration on quantum and microelectronics to deepen both strategic alliance and academic influences.
Located in Grenoble and founded in 1339, Grenoble Alpes University (UGA) is one of the historic and prestigious research universities in France. Currently, UGA is ranked 101-150 by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Academic Ranking, 294th by QS World University Rankings, and 301-350 by The Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE). In 2022, UGA was ranked 30th by French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), making UGA as one of the top universities in France. Except Paris, Grenoble is the French city with the most research institutions, and one of the largest European science centers in the meanwhile. Since all national research institutions of France are in Grenoble, many multinational enterprises have their research and development centers there, which gives Grenoble a name of “the Silicon Valley of Europe.”
