The "Office for Health Services and Digital Innovation" at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has been officially inaugurated on the 7th floor of the East Wing of the Yun-Ping Building on the Kuang-Fu Campus! In the future, NCKU will use the Shalun campus as a starting point to initiate its journey of digital transformation and innovation on campus. This year (2023), NCKU plans to launch several initiatives, including optimizing the Population Forum, the Shalun Cup Hackathon, and participating in the 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival, along with other diverse activities. Additionally, an international digital innovation forum will be held, inviting key domestic and international enterprises to engage through the Shalun Digital Innovation Sandbox Platform, aiming to drive digital development and make Shalun a crucial hub for international digital innovation.

To manage the establishment of the Shalun Medical Service and Innovation Park and to develop a digital governance system between NCKU and the Shalun campus, expanding the platform for health services and data innovation applications and value-added services, NCKU has formed the "NCKU Health Services and Digital Innovation Promotion Committee and Task Force Office" this year (2023). On the afternoon of August 7th, NCKU President Meng-Ru Shen took a photo with the executive team of the NCKU Office for Health Services and Digital Innovation, expressing his hope that the office will act as a driving force within the campus, strengthening collaborative links with the public sector, industry, and alumni to create a smart, healthy, and happy campus. The goal is to become a model university for digital sustainability while simultaneously advancing the Shalun Science City into a healthy, sustainable, and smart city, forming a digital knowledge economy cluster and a livable community in Southern Taiwan.

Digital infrastructure is one of the key aspects of the national forward-looking infrastructure plan. Given the upcoming challenges of a low birth rate and an aging society, digital technology will play a critical role in future living. The NCKU Shalun Health Services and Digital Innovation Park aims to start by establishing a smart, advanced medical campus, incorporating AI big data governance and value-added services to drive digital and green energy industry innovation in the Shalun area. The park will not only plan comprehensive medical services to meet regional needs but also emphasize leveraging electrical and information technology capabilities to develop future smart living through value-added digital innovation services. Digital innovation will be the core of the Shalun campus, which will serve as the starting point for NCKU's digital innovation, demonstrating value-added services using health data and establishing a health center to further seek fundamental solutions to demographic issues through digital innovation.

On December 31, 2021, the Executive Yuan approved the "National Cheng Kung University Shalun Medical Service and Innovation Park Pilot Project." On January 17, 2023, the "NCKU Hospital Shalun Campus Construction Project" was approved, with a total first-phase budget of NT$9.28 billion, of which the central government subsidized NT$4.78 billion and NCKU Hospital covered NT$4.5 billion. To align with the national development plan and major public construction, NCKU has closely cooperated with the Tainan City Government, actively planning the future promotion process, and looking forward to jointly creating a knowledge economy living circle in Southern Taiwan, becoming a hub of digital sustainability innovation.

The future planning of the NCKU Shalun Health Services and Innovation Park includes the establishment of a big data center, production laboratories, research centers, logistics warehousing, and medical staff dormitories. The promotion office plans to invite experts and scholars from various sectors, including biomedical, architecture, digital, finance, government agencies, humanities and social sciences, alumni representatives, brand management, information systems and equipment, precision medical industry chain, digital governance and data strategy, talent recruitment and training, to collaboratively develop Tainan Shalun Smart Science City into a global model for health, sustainability, and smart cities.
